North verses South re-match
We from th eCGL challenged the Romford league to a matchplay comp next Saturday at Rutland county golf club. Unfortuantly, the Romford league is struggling to make a team, with only 8 players down to play. The CGL has a team of around 20 and we need 40 players to take place.
so if anyone wants to come and play for either the Romford league or make up another team from the north, then please let me know.
The current deal is £29 which covers;
9 hole course
coffee and bacon roll
18 hole course
evening supper
A further £3 for the prize fund to cover nearest the pin and winners medals etc
This is a great day out, near Peterborough within 5 minutes of the A1, on a Satuday for just £29 + £3 towards prizes on the day.
If you want to take part, can you please PM me or paste the following link in your web explorer for more details.

As I'm originally from Essex I don't mind playing for the South - after all it's not the Golfshake event which has become very personal to me....

i am surprised more southeners have not signed up for this.just to make sure this years n vs s wasn t a fluke result or was it?
Reply : Tue 7th Jul 2009 00:32
If you think it was a fluke, Neil then be my guest.
The Competition was between to leagues,, one from the North and one from the south. The one is in the south is based in Essex and only has a small turnout compared to the one up north and this is why the south side is pretty weak.

Yes, the Romford League is struggling to get players for this event.
I'm really surprised as most of the people who play in my events are the kind of people who would relish playing in an event like this.
The course we are playing is as near to half way between the two leagues.
I'm going up late on Friday morning so should be at the club by 1pm.
There is a big competition on Friday but I'm hoping to get onto the course later that afternoon.
If anybody from the south would like to play there are still places left.

I am far worse than him, Alan, I was going to come up myself and then pop over to the West Mids after the game, but my wife wants the car on Saturday, so no luck.
Reply : Tue 7th Jul 2009 18:45
were are you based john?

I live in the village of Emmer Green which is just north of Reading, but I do not have a problem with travelling for a game. My problem is trying to keep the body from stagnating.

i have the same problem with my mind (not the travelling bit)

I'm going up on Friday so if anybody wants to join me for a practice round or even go over the road and play Greetham Valley GC then let me know.
Not sure what time I'm getting there, it's only a ninety minute drive from here and I don't want to get there too early!

Hi Paul,
I'll get in touch regarding Friday.
Have you played both courses? Which of the two would you say is the best, Greetham or Rutland?
I'm thinking of playing at Greetham Valley as I've never played there before.

OK Paul, I'll contact you tomorrow about my arrival time.
We'll see if we can get on the Valley course at Greetham on Friday afternoon.
I've put up some posts on this and other forums asking who is going down on Friday but so far I've had no replies!
If anybody is going down on Friday then they can join us if they want.

Change of plans for me.
I'm going to travel up on the Saturday morning.
It appears that I was the only person who was going to travel up on the Friday, and I don't fancy sitting in my room/bar all night on my own!
Paul, thanks for the offer, we'll have to arrange a game at Greetham Valley GC.
