Most courses are just after your money, so I'd say they would accept your GolfShake handicap.
I have never been asked for my handicap certificate yet!

I think that if you turn up at a Course and show respect to that Club, you will be welcomed with open arms, even without any Hcp. There are a few Clubs that you need a Hcp Certificate though and a GolfShake one should do. Its the Clubs who request a letter of introduction that you could have trouble with.

Matt, also depends on reason for needing the handicap.
As stated you should be fine but you may run into problems if it's an open club competition which general state 'official' club handicap which can only be got from a club. That said, I know of 2 people who have used the golfshake handicap in open club comps without problems and chatted to a guy on Tuesday night who had shown is handicap certficate printed from here at 2 local courses and both said they would accept in the club opens.
