HHC 2009 Event 1 Stoke Albany GC

Posted by: user101687 | Sun 17th May 2009 22:26 | Last Reply

On a wet and windy day in Leicestershire the High handicap tour got underway in earnest at Stoke Albany Golf Club. All the usual suspects were there despite 2 late drop outs, so 10 hardy members braved the conditions to get the competition rolling. Newbies Robin Macdonald and Matt Bryan were experiencing competition for the first time, with Matt travelling all the way from Hampshire to attend. My heart felt thanks goes to my old mucker Steve Hancox who came along to offer moral support (or in my case verbal abuse)

And so to the results; first winner of the day was my good self who backed Ali Mitchell to saunter in 5 minutes before kick-off, sure enough at 10.55 Ali meandered in without a care in the world, thanks mate you didn't let me down.

Seriously though here are the results: bringing up the rear but by no means disgraced was Matt Bryan with 25pts so at least he did not go home empty handed. A great effort Matty considering the distance you travelled. Next up was Andy Edwards with a commendable 26pts before yours truly came in with 31. Ali Mitchell and Martin Litchfield both showed their continued progress with 32pts whilst Ray Perryman and Adrian Murray both shot 33pt rounds with the latter taking 3rd spot on countback. Robin Macdonald scored an excellent 35pts to take 2nd place, a remarkable achievement in his first tournament outing but our winner with a formidable 40pts was my counterpart Carlton Burrows who played exremely well all day andthoroughly deserved his victory.Nearest the pin went to Martin Litchfield and longest Drive went to my good self with an enormous shot ( actually i won it by default as no one else could stay on the fairway).

Highlight of the day: All players in group 1 ( me included) following each other out of bounds on the 10th tee. (WE WANNA BE TOGETHER !!!)

Many thanks to all players for attending and continuing their support. I must apologise for shooting off so quickly but due to work commitments this could not be avoided, I am aware of the unsavoury incident atthe awards ceremony afterwards which i have deliberately skirted round and i hope this did not spoil your day.

Once again guys, thanks for a really enjoyable day.

The answer to that Stephen is when someone is brave enough to organise it.

It was a good day out only marginally let down by the weather which obviously nobody could do nothing about (well that's my excuse!).  The wind and rain on the 1st tee were memorable!  If you are in the Market Harborough neck of the woods, I do recommend the course, nice and open with a few challenges on many a hole.

I dont know what went wrong for me yesterday...off the Tee I was OK ish, I think I must have won some sort of record for the most bunkers or edge of bunkers found in 1 round.  My bunker play still needs some serious work and those greens were a b*tch to read, very undulating all of them.

Anyway, big thanks to Cliff for organizing the event and for sourcing some really top notch trophies.

Good to see you all fellas, lets hope another is organized again soon.  I'm definately up for another one.

Matt

Actually Robin, you are right, when the sun came out through holes 9-15 it wasn't bad golf weather at all, still a touch windy though.

Come on you other high handicappers get signed up for the next one.  Yesterday was my first competitive event so dont be shy.

I wonder who's going to take up the challenge of organising it.....?

Hi Andy

As much as I would love to do this one...I'm already booked in to play the Derby course at the Belfry on the weekend 17th/18th July (We have a works do up there!) Plus I'll be on holiday during the w/c 4th July.

£40 sounds like a good little deal if you can get it, it's costing us £40 just for the golf at the Belfry. (Hmm, looks towards the lady that has arranged this at work and thinks she hasn't got us a good deal!)

Sorry bud.

Cliff/Carlton

Will our rounds be added to our profiles?, or should we be adding them ourselves?.  I still have a card that I filled in for Steve that has my round score on it too.

Guys,

Just waiting for Darren to sort out a minor problem with the data, i have all the cards and as soon as it  is resolved rest assured they will be entered.Andy, count me in preferably for the 12th as "el bandito" Carlton can't make that day (hahaha), but seriously either date is good for me. Also i have found a similar course down south to the one we played on Sunday if anyone is interested in joining me to promote our tour further afield. We are talking about 8 miles from Heathrow Airport. Looking to do this in August so as not to co-incide with Andy's event. Let me know fellas/lasses.

Lee, i agree mate( especially as i won there last year!!!) I would love to go back there but am reluctant to venture into organising again in view of Mr.Perrymans comments re Stoke Albany. Pretty hacked off at the moment.

Cliff, you organised a great event mate.  Dont let the antics of one person get to you.

A course near Heathrow you say. I reckon I could get 3-4 players to take part in that one in August.  Shame I cant make an event early to mid July : (

Yes Matt,

Trying to venture further afield as i say and promote in new areas, with you in mind i was somewhere nr Staines, i was gonna suggest the Army Club but then remembered its your home club !! As for the other don't worry, as Arnie says "I'll be Back". I'm just pretty miffed at the moment with all the bull he came out with in his blog. I was trying hard to play down the issue and not make a big thing of it but i was compelled to respond, rightly or wrongly only time will tell.

Lee - you can have the wierd experience of going out first as an 'elite' player like I did at the last HHC at W. Mids.

Take a camera for the 18th!
