Hole-in-one

Posted by: user79538 | Mon 11th May 2009 14:24 | Last Reply

Within a period of 10 days two of my regular playing partners have holed their third shots at a par 5 for eagle.  The first (Saturday 2nd May) was one of our Past Captains at the 10th hole at Mowsbury (my home course), the second was at the 3rd hole at Ely City GC on Friday.  Both of these shots cost me, as we play for 'bits', and an eagle counts for 2 'bits'.  I jokingly told both guys it was my turn next!

Playing in our Pro's Bogey Cup yesterday I hit my first ever hole-in-one at our 169 yard 5th hole so it really was myturn to hit an eagle!  As it was an official competition though; we weren't playing for 'bits', so I couldn't recoup my losses, and in fact I had a fairly hefty bar bill - thank goodness I've got hole-in-one cover as part of my golf insurance!  The realilty of it all was that I played like a complete beginner before and after the ace, so the whole round was memorable for just one shot.

Anybody else had any similar experiences - only one memorable shot in a round?

Congratulations Terry, great stuff!

My hole-in-one was in 1988 and I haven't been too close since.  During that round, I played pretty badly, except for the par 3 11th where I got the ace.  My excitement was dampened a little by the fact that the green was hidden and I didn't get to see the ball drop.  All I wondered was why the "idiots" on the next tee were waving their arms and shouting at me!  To this day, I don't generally like par 3s where you can't see the bottom of the pin.

The rest of the round was very poor, apart from the par 3 17th, where I put the ball to about 6 inches amongst cries of "he's gonna bloody do it again".  So I guess that's 2 memorable shots in a round.  Still, better than my golf recently where there have been no memorable shots in my rounds!

You are lucky, Terry, I very rarely get a memorable shot a round.

Congratulations on getting your first hole in one and for having insurance to cover the bar bill!

Thanks a lot guys.

Just to contnue the 'eagle saga' - the guy who holed his third shot at Ely City GC last Friday, holed his third shot at my home Club's par 5, 15th in the Mid-Week Medal today for yet another eagle - some people are just greedy!!!
