Whats the worst course you've played and why?
Mine would have to be my former home course Brandhall, the lay out is fair and it has lots of variety.
The problem being its a muni so all the local kids roam through and the greens get pretty much vandalised, so this is not really the course's fault but all the same they are terrible to play on!
I used to think it was the be all and end all, when i first took up the game but now having played a few different courses appreciate the vast difference and hard work that Golf clubs put in to maintain there high standards.

Wergs Golf Club in Wolverhampton. Only two holes with any interest (one with a wooded stream down the left that marks the limit of the course and one with a split fairway with trees and heavy rough in the middle). Really up and down, average condition and totally boring.

Harborne Muni, it's a 9 hole course which you HAVE to tee off a mat all year round. Greens are crap, fairways are crap & there's nothing special what so ever. Take into account all the people walking their dogs & picking balls up along the way it's dire!!
Paul, Brandhall comes a very close 2nd

Mardyke Valley GC
This 18 hole course used to be a 9 hole course and you can tell.
The original 9 holes are OK but the new 9 holes are just up and down one big field.
They have a couple of good holes, the 17th springs to mind.
Midweek they don't cook until 11am, not much good if you are teeing off early!

Burnt Out Cars, Bikes, Picnicers and don't forget the Horses been riden over the course. Now that could be Middleton or Temple Newsam Muni's here in Leeds.

I'm prepared to forgive some muni's, the two local Derby ones around here are pretty good. OK, they suffer the usual drainage problems, footpaths crossing and snotty-nosed kids playing sand castles in the bunkers but you can either of them throughout the winter for 2/6d etc:
What I can't forgive is a 'proper' private golf club being unkempt. There is a course near me which has blackballed me for complaining about the state of the course - the then pro was more than willing to listen, but the owners subsequently banned me. Obviously I've been back to try it, and things do get better but it's during the summer when it really suffers. It was built, and I use the term lightly, on farmland (as were many courses in the late 80's) but the guy who did was a cheapskate. The tee boxes are like concrete, the fairways are stoney, the bunkers little more than shallow pits filled with builders sand and the greens so hard I've seen a ball bounce 6 feet high from a pitch. The edges of the greens (which are just raised areas of fairway) are scalped bare in the summer. It's not cheap to play either.
The members, incredibly, tend to be fiercely protective of the place, often boasting about having the fastest greens in the county - but then again my kitchen floor is quick and I can get a ball to stop on that!
After all that I'm still reluctant to name the course, I genuinely fear legal action if I slate it in a public forum again. Some people who know me will know which course I mean, it really has got potential and it's a shame that the members don't seem to have the bottle to do anything about it.
Rant over.

Tim, you are entitled to your opinion and having read your post I cannot see any reason for legal action.

Technically, a person could face legal action for things they post on the internet.
However,
A. I cant see this being the case here
and
B. It would cost them a lot of money to find out whether it was definitely you who posted the comments - and that is if this site would be willing to give out someones IP address - which I doubt. It would also rely on you using a computer that only you have access to!

I would stand outside there after being banned with a sign saying how poor the course is and that you get banned should you complain!
