Military golf

Posted by: user41897 | Mon 27th Apr 2009 15:34 | Last Reply

Any shakers out there played at any of the many military courses?

This was an interesting article http://tinyurl.com/ctbkhz albeit 14 years old (amazing that a 14 year old story can still be picked up off the web)

I used to load for the British Army in Bosnia and Kosovo at an RAF Base in Germany. RAF Bruggen, just across the dutch border at Roermond.

This base had a the most fantastic golf course one could wish to play on. Very similar to all the good Surrey courses.

I always had a game there when I was there for loading.

Have played Catterick Garrison and Strensall (York GC).

Once walked onto the 2nd Tee at York and was met with a "Pist!". Looked round and found a soldier laid in the grass behind the Tee. "Can you see anyone else?" he asked.

I've played at Catterick Garrison GC.

The ex brother-in-law was in the air force and that was his local course.

Apparently it was built by the Royal Engineers, and if it was they did a good job.
