Are you trying to start an argument, David?
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 09:59
David,
Can you tell us what is correct then?? Why all the cloak & dagger??
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 11:56
This is correct, I am part of the mod team however to date there is little to no additional features to use.
Currently I am pointing out issues as i see them and notifying Darren on a case by case basis.
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 12:00
Oh and there are 13 people part of the mod group.
No cloak and dagger stuff here.
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 13:01
I think to have some very 'quick wins' you mods should have at least the power to delete certain posts or at the very minimum 'hide' them until a more superior mod can make the final call.
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 14:44
That is a very good idea John.
Perhaps a message saying 'awaiting approval' or something similar?
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 15:00
Good wording Dennis.
In the instance of last night you could have invoked this 'power' on certain posts & then if Darren or whoever decided it was OK for them you can 'release' them & they would still get posted.
you could also have something where members could 'report' a post as being abusive, incitive etc & have a function that on a page refresh automatically deletes that post if it has been reported more than a certain number of times. Obviousley only 1 member could report a post once otherwise you could have just 1 person constantly reporting a post just because they disagree with the content.
John.

You mean like the person who referred to someone as a sour faced ole git.
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 20:47
I have not read any of those on this forum, have you. Racism is a new word brought about to keep control of the masses. I am quite sure that every man in this country was not to enamoured with the Germans in the war or the Irish in the days of the IRA. just as the Iraqi's and Afghanis are not enamoured with the British and Americans. Face the fact, Pat, that no one should be allowed to prevent anyone from saying whom they wish to like or dislike.
Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 20:49
I know they were made in jest, Pat and I was not offended by them and I doubt even Colin would have been. He realises that is how he is portrayed in the media.

As for what powers we have - lets just say that you better not bring any cryptonite in here
On a more serious note, some of the things we can now do is edit / delete comments as well as highlight persistant troublemakers who WILL get shown the door (although this will be done via Darren).

Youre welcome Paul.
No secrets here (apart from the Cryptonite -shhh)

What I want to know is which one of you wears their pants over their trousers???
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 19:39
Well, Russ, I think you are attempting to get at me, as you do not seem to have let the matter drop.
xenophobia is a reasonable fear or hatred of foreigners. I have no fear of foreigners one little bit, even though, in my time I have been shot at by some of them.
There are many foreigners that I have a fond affinity for, namely the Turks, Greeks, Iraqi's, Irani's, Germans and Italians. The French are not my favourite race at all, neither are the Spanish (They are a Racist Nation)but then I have had many unpleasant dealings with them over the years.
As always there are exceptions to prove the rule and I have many friends from countries who I do not have a fond affinity for.
I have spent a lifetime amongst foreigners so have some experience on who is likely to stab you in the back and who would make trusted friends.
It is no big deal if you find me not your cup of tea as I am sure there will be many who will not be au fait with you. That is a fact of life.

Russ / John P,
I think you have both made your points very well.
John.
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 19:47
I had let the matter drop, John, but you know that I will alwys respond if people persist in dragging threads al over the place.
I do not have to justify my thoughts and opinions to anyone. If they don't like them there is nothing I can do about it.

The game of Golf is a great leveller. It does not matter where you come from, we all try to master this great game. It doesn't matter if you are the Lord of the Manor or empty the Dustbins for a living, if you play Golf to a high standard you will get "Respect" from other Golfers.
If someone arrives on this site and immediately shows a lack of respect for anyone else, I will be keeping my eye on them.

Someone attacked me on this forum, brought friends in for support and I was left attempting to deal with a bunch of stirrers from across the border and some from further afield who decided to jump on the band waggon.
I defended my corner in a way that I thought was appropriate, obviously the PC brigade had minor heart attacks, have been left floundering for what to say and now I am being portrayed as the one causing all the trouble.
Attacking me in one breath and then patronising me in another, is pretty pathetic in my view.
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 20:14
Fine, Russ, I take it I can assume that we are now friends and will not be riling each other in future.
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 20:21
Right, Paul, it has been made a race issue, yet tomorrow I am playing at Oak Park Golf club with and Indian an Irishman, a white South African, all very good players who look after me very well, for which I am very appreciative.
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 20:31
You are already a good player Russ and I doubt if any advice I offered would be of benefit to you. You are a better player than me.
Reply : Tue 28th Apr 2009 20:52
I take it it is me you're refering to Paul.
Like i have said to yourself and John P through PMs I did not come on this site to argue, but as you may recall my very first post was annihilated by John P. My nature causes me to respond to any aggressive or offensive posts towards myself . Whether you think they were aggressive or offensive is neither here nor there. i felt they were and that is why I responded.
I did not jump on the band wagon with anyone i only responded to posts against me and i feel that i am being constantly wound up. I could not look at the site for a couple of days and then look at threads and posts and sarcastic comments are made mentioning my name.
I am not "bitter and twisted" and all one for the banter, but can we please end the bickering and get back to golf.
I am sure you all love golf as much as i do and are fed up with this arguing and I personally would like to start afresh if possible.
Martin

A very sensible post Martin. I think that it's time to draw a line under all of the past squabbles and start afresh.
Let's let bygones be bygones, quit bringing up posts and comments from months ago and try sticking to the topic without any personal comments. I wasn't online on Sunday (in a ropey hotel in the Lakes with no internet!) but I can guarantee that a large number of posts would have been disappearring as quickly as they appearred.

Read my post above Paul.

ALL
Note Chris's comment above. Let's draw a line and move on.
We now have several forum moderators so I hope that instances that have previously occured will be deterred from occuring again with the introduction of the moderators.
Hopefully conduct and behaviour against the Forum User Policy will be stamped out before it escalates in a quick and timely manor.
