Taylor made is a mass producing manufacturer with good marketing and a cheap labour source in China. Marumans, on the other hand are hand made in Japan with the finest forged steel available and that is reflected in their original cost. They start at around $3000 a set of irons. They will still be capable of playing great golf in another twenty years Paul, so don't worry, you have plenty of time to learn how to use them.

Equiptment doesn't make any difference though, right John?
So TM's or Marumans won't make any difference..
Cheeky, Jonny P, suppose I asked for that, but you will have to agree that only the better player can play with anything.
Paul has a pretty solid swing with natural power because of his natural strength and I am quite sure that once he gets confident with them, then he will start to see his handicap moving in the right direction.
I thought you hit Daves 3 iron at Wychwood, remember? Kevin as well.

John,
have decided to put my Nike's in the bag after taking them to the range today & hitting them sweet, although I think that has something to do with implementing the tips & drills Dave was giving me yesterday. The grips are fantastic.

Jonny,
my new Nike's are forged & you can deffo tell when you've hit it out of the sweet spot. So now I'm combining feel with GPS

Jonny P, would love to come to chippy as I am sure Dave and Kevin, would, but having me as a partner is pretty tough on you, but, who know, I might just start to play a bit better as soon as the sun gets on my back.

John F, your Nikes are not forged, David told me they were genuine.

I think i must be missing something here, why use blades when cavity backs are easier to use, even alot of tour pro's use them.

You certainly are ........

and why would that be David

Interesting points. I used to play with Titlist pro 100's which were mild steel, they were a super club which generated for me a lot of backspin and quite ahead of their time in the 70's with a weight in toe and heel. They rusted if you played in the wet so you had to keep n top with cleaning. When I had to get a new set I encountered the 'modern' clubs which, regardless of sweet spots just seemed too 'big', almost like shovels and had no feel at all. I bought a second hand set of taylor made tour preferred's and fitted new shafts. The problem using blades is that certain other golfers think you're a snob, a purist, somone who plays above their ability but it's nothing to do with that. It's simply the feel and control you get from using blades. It's like when you set up you know you're going to hit a good shot which is a priceless feeling. However like Jonny P says, if you hit it out of the sweet spot it makes no difference what club brand you use.

I used to have a st of Maruman blades, yes they felt good but that was not my point.
I thought all golfers wanted to improve their game not hinder it.
I think you have to be a very consistant ball striker to use such irons if you want to improve and lower your handicap.

whilst using them in practise my ball striking when going back to my normal club as improved,
Paul I fully understand where you're coming from as this is exactly what I do when I'm practising driving. I start off using my old Wilson 1200 wood which has a very small head and requires a good strike. After 20 or so of those I move onto my large square driver and the striking is almost perfect (mind you though the head must be 4or 5x larger so not surprising BUT it works never the less. Keep plugging at it and I'm sure you'll get to the stage where you don't have to think about the strike but more important things like visualising the shot.
It's a similar thing to back in the seventies when using the Anerican Ball was all the rage. It was a bigger ball so exagerated all you shots ie a fade becane a slice etc. However when you went back to platying the standard ball the striking improved.
