Ladies sports including golf

Posted by: user21284 | Thu 26th Mar 2009 20:09 | Last Reply

Hi everyone

I just seen the end of the ONE show on the BBC and watched the report on the reasons why ladies sports arn't being reconized by the public in which i was furious at some of the comments the men gave.

In relation to golf, Ladies and Women Golfers are coming into the game because of the LPGA Tour with the likes of Annika Sorenstam, Laura Davies and Michelle Wie and so on... In my opion the ladies game is evolving just as quick as the mens game.

I would encourage young girls, Ladies and Women to take up the game as it isn't just a mans game anymore so i say tee it up and let the best score win.

I would like to know your views on it and look forward for reading your replies.

Happy Golfing

Ladies golf has been around a long time now and is well established with many fine players on the ladies tour.

We all enjoy watching them play as they give us many fine examples of how to hit a ball straight and fairly long without employing bully boy tactics.

The far east are now producing lady golfers almost on a production line, especially Korea.

I thoroughly encourage it.  Unfortunately there is still an element of the male golfing fraternity that thinks it is a gentleman's club and women should only be allowed on certain days of the week with specific tee times so as not to disturb their game.  If they had their way, women wouldn't be allowed on the course at all and you can see the look of disgust on their face when ladies walk into the clubhouse.

I also point out that these bigots come in all ages and are most certainly not limited to the anti-change old boys.

Well I do more than my fair share of housework and ironing and I'm still waiting for some of the better attributes to rub off on me.

If women ever got good enough to compete with the best players in the world, I am sure most lads would love to see them play - I know I would.

Annika Sorrenstam ?

I agree but there are other factors to take into account.

Tiger doesn't have to have time off to have kids etc which must play a big part having to take so much time off from the game. the only example we can use is his knee operation, when he came back he was / still is nowhere near as good as he was before he went for the op

Annika played from the same tees as the men so she was at a disadvantage from the start as most people would agree that the men physique is a lot different to that of the female.

Amateur Womens Golf is slightly different to other Sports. The women play to a different Hcp system and the LGU has a different set of Comp Rules too. So it is difficult for men and women to play in the same Singles Comp.

There is a place for both on a golf course, but some of the womens attitude's cause friction. The want equal rights but won't pay equal Fees.

BTW, I always try and play in The Mixed Grusomes.

Luke Donald is a shorter hitter than Annika! - do you think it's unfair that he plays from the back tees?

Jonny,

where you getting your facts from?? Luke Donalds average driving distance is 280yrds, stats, while Annika's is 251yrs, stats.

That's 30yrds difference!!

Driving Stats are just a load of figures and don't really tell you anything.

Two guys can show a distance of 300yds, one hits it miles high, carries it 280 and gets only 20yds roll, the other hits it low, carries 240 and gets 60yds roll. That is the Stat for one Tournament. The next one is played on a wet course in rain and with no roll so the Stats change.

The Tour Stats don't take into account what club a player hits.

Where the BIG difference between the Guys and the Girls is on the second shots. Where a guy will hit, say a 5iron, the girls might have to hit a 5wood. How many times do we see Hybreds hit at 180yd par 3's on the LPGA Tour.

Most amateurs don't know how far they CARRY a club, only how far they think they hit it. Once they reach a 160yd par 3 with an 8iron, thats how far they hit an 8iron.
