That Damed United
Does anyone here have any thoughts about this new Film?
Michael Sheen plays Brian Clough very well and they have got Revie too but the others leave a lot to be desired.
I had a run in with Mr Clough during his 44days at Elland Road. He wanted to stop the players from playing golf.
He turned up at Roundhay one afternoon with "Are any of my lads here?"
"Don't know, who are you?" asked my boss at the time.
"I'm Brian Clough, manager of Leeds United" came the answer from a very red face.
"Have you seen his lads David?" my boss asked.
As I answered "No" Brian was off back to his light brown Merc and sped off down the driveway.
"Better ring round and tell the lads" my boss told me.

The film abut his short time at Elland road is of no interest to me whatsoever, what I feel is that he was a great manager and his record shows that. A pity that those at the FA did not have the gumption to make him the England manager, when he was obviously the best in the business at the time.

I've not yet seen the film so can give a view of what the fans thought then. I was a fan (albeit home games). You've got to remember it was a tough time as they'd had the glory and were desperately looking to recapture it. The younger end were all for him, me included but 44 days? that'd never happen today in this ever more fickle time. The older end I think were desperately hanging on to keep the culture in the hope that things could turn around.
Look at what he went on to do.
LUFC have a knack of 'letting people go' witout any consideration as to whether it would affect the football, look at the case of Cantona instead of Lee Chapman.

I have to admit, that by playing Golf at the time I had "insider information" as to what was going on.
Don Revie turned down a move to Everton only a few months before taking the England job. He had recommended Johnnie Giles to take over with a 100% backing from the players. For the Board to appoint Brian Clough ahead of Giles really got to the players and to say that they had over-looked Giles because he had come with Revie's recommendation, well Clough was doomed, even before the ink was dry on his contract.

I'm a Leeds fan and lived in Gildersome for years so the ground was only about 4 stops down Gelderd road for me. I was fortunate to have the time to go and watch them for the years that they got promoted and won the league 2 seasons later in the old Division 1 under the dour Wilkinson. He let Cantona go because he was popular with the fans in my opinion. Rocastle rarely got a game because he was a fans favourite too. Same could be said for Batty.
Didn't realise there was a film out about Cloughie and was surprised to read your post about Martin Sheen playing the lead role David, thought that was an unusual choice until I've just found out its the English actor Michael Sheen!

Exactly right David. Perhaps whilst the other person in the triangle was stocking up his wine cellar.
PS, the film is released 27th of this month. Should do well in Leeds.

On an Open Forum, I can't say if you are Right or Wrong?
But the supposed girl in question had a father called Mo who was killed in a aircrash while flying to play golf in Morocco from his Spanish home.
