I'll be there (on my own) for Sunday and Monday - will be marshalling the troops and re-aquainting myself with the course before a detailed team debriefing and distribution of tactical notes - either that or I'll just get p*ssed in the bar.

Bad news is that Rosa won't be there - shame on you Mr Shearsby.

I'll be there Sunday and Monday with my mate whom I'm sharing a room with. Just hope I don't end up staying up all night at the bar like I normally do on a golf weekend. Gotta be sensible for a change. It's a team game after all. The North would probably still win without me anyway!!!!

I'm staying and bringing the little lady.  I have a feeling her and Lee's trolley dolly may be propping up the bar when we return from our game

Why no Rosa?  It won't be the same without her

Won't be the same without Rosa cheering us on. She is like the unofficial mascot of the Northern team.

Are we sure she'e not coming or has she been kidnapped by the South ? That's the only way they have a chance of winning by taking our minds off the game.

If Ms Buffham is taking her DS then I'll tell Jo and she'll take hers.  We'll come back in from our game to the police breaking up Mario Cart related fights!

Is it wise to leave Ms Buffham, Ms Miller and Ms Perry alone in the bar together for the afternoon?

Hmmm.  There was one par on my last one and eight on the one before (would've been nine but I decided to take the birdie instead).  There's nothing wrong with being careful, ask any Yorkshireman.  And I've got a wedding coming up, but I don't know what I will use as an excuse after then........

If you hear a creaking noise in the distance, that's my wallet opening.

What time is the Sunday tee off and who is playing with who? I've signed up late for the stop over so don't have a scooby what is happening on the Sunday.

Could someone be kind enough to let me know the score? (other than the South winning on the Monday of course)

We have tee times from 13:02 until 14:22

Basically it's informal golf and part of the package for the overnight.  If you want me to organise a mini game let me know.  Stableford ?

I'll email everyone staying over next week and see if there are preferences to who plays with who on the Sunday.

Regards, Darren.

Cheers Darren, i wasn't sure as i was a late comer to the Sunday if games had already been organised. I'm happy to play with anyone.

For what it's worth, i think it has to be just a fun stableford to keep the rounds to a reasonable length.

3/4 handicap medal Dave... might be good business for the pro shop with all the lost balls but 5 hour plus rounds wouldn't be much good for the legs and the comp on monday :-) I'd give it a go if that's the consensus though, i must have some cheap top flites I can launch at the scenery!

Stableford, full handicaps.  Don't care what the Taffy says.  Low handicappers always whine about 3/4 handicaps.  IF I WAS SUPPOSED TO PLAY OFF 3/4 OF MY CURRENT HANDICAP, THAT'S WHAT MY HANDICAP WOULD BE!!!   As regards prizes, a couple of quid in each should sort it.

3/4 handicap stroke play

how about 1-1-1, front 9 - back 9 - overall, winner take all also could have 1 l/drive and 1 n/p

DM, may have to disagree.  Might be so for low handicappers but I've played and it can take 5 mins to retrieve the other 3 balls once you have choosen the best placed ball

I'll go quiet now.  Open to ideas and the £x in the pot is a great idea.

Regards, Darren.

David, I sometimes like to play from the left or the right of the fairway so that I can take the best angle of attack, this is not always the middle

I too will go with the majority, only played texas scramble twice and you have a lot more of experience and years on me

re: North Vs South (Sunday stay over)
user16163
Reply : Sun 5th Apr 2009 12:06

David

to be honest personally i dont think it would be as quick as you say

yes you can retrieve balls on the way but that is if you can decide who has the best drive/approach, its not always the longest/straightest drive that you choose as darren suggested it might be better to appraoch the green from the left or right

so i could see some people arguing at where the best positioned shot would be

i do agree that it could speed things up especially if you get 2 or 3 people driving into the rough, but what if all 4 people drive into difficulty the that where it may slow it down as again you could get arguments as to wherethe best placed ball is

personally i dont mind which format we play as i have played texas scramble before and did enjoy it, so i will go with the majority

if we do decide to play texas scramble what are the thoughts of prizes

£1 per man winning team take all???

I've always played Texas scramble in three ball teams. That way each player has to use 5 tee shots with three holes for any player's tee shot. This adds pressure as the round progresess for those who are bit wayward on the day (Par 3's come in useful then) and towards the end of the round it might only be necessary for one person to tee off.

I've never played the format as a four ball team. I guess you could have 4 tee shots each and two floaters for added pressure!

In Stableford if a player who can't score, picks up and walk the hole from that point it speeds the game up tremendously. It's when someone insists on putting out for a double figure score after having an absolute mare of a hole, for absolutely no value, that slows this format down.

Medal play is just slow if you're having a bad day. Like my group yesterday on the 13th where we managed to spray the ball around liberally and backed up about four groups.  When we tried to play the group behind through they stuffed it up as well leading to even more problems. Painful but quite funny also. No-one minded though...ITS A MEDAL.

Happy to go with whatever is decided as I mentioned before.

Lets not get carried away here guys. Previous stay overs have just been played in friendly four balls with no prize money and just to have a sighter for the course for the competition the following day.

I personally would not want to get too competitive on the Sunday, just have a bit of fun with the other guys staying over.

The serious golf can be played the following day. If anyone wants to have a friendly game within there own fourball then fair enough.

I agree with Martin for what it's worth.  I'd just like to play a friendly practice round before the main event.  If I'm playing c*$p and slowing it down then I'll pickup.  That said, I'll go with whatever is decided. I'll play with anyone.  Balls in the hat is fine by me.

Thats 3 of us for a hack round - whats the hurry?  Not going anywhere in the evening and the longer I spend on the course the less time I spend in the bar - and as I'm not betting I'll have more cash to spare as I invariably lose.

Personaly I want to play my own ball right round to give me a better view of how to play the course on Monday.  It's be no benefit to the short hitters trying to learn the course if they are playing their second from 60 yards further down than they would normally be.

We're doing matchplay on Monday so stableford off FULL handicaps should the way forward

Mr Marshall,

I am a team player and as such will not be the least bit interested in the INDIVIDUAL stableford on Monday.  My own personal score will be forgone to ensure that me and my playing partner take the match.

I'm easy and happy to just faciliate organisation of tee times and groups.

If you want £1 in the pot then just let me know, sounds like the consensus is for a friendly knock around and enjoy the course.

Well said Santo

There are positives and negatives to playing the same course every year and personally I like the 'home and away' style that we currently have, but it would be easier if a central venue were used.  Like you, I would probably stay over for the banter even if it was somewhere like the FOA or Belfry (both just a 10 minute drive for me).

I think that getting good tee times is difficult for such large numbers and this is why there is a 11:30 start; I had the same issue when booking us up at the Belfry, even four months in advance and that was for half the numbers.  It's a fine balance between late enough to let those who won't be staying over time to get there and early enough for everyone to get home again afterwards.

Anybody know the final plan for Sunday viz tee times / pairings?  What time will we be able to get into our rooms for those who are staying?
