1st tee at the Belfry 15/3/09
So I saw the 1st group tee off & not one of them hit the fairway . I was in the 2nd group & all of us hit the middle of the fairway but apart from that I didn't hear about anyone's else's tee shots.
did anybody not get past the ladies?? did anyway sky it?? did anybody shank it & nearly kill someone??
come on don't be embarrassed
John.

decent strike landed on the fairway but rolled in to the furthest point of the bunker, had to splash out - got down for a safe 5 (in fact we all got 5's iirc in our group?). Then went on a stormer for several holes scoring some pars and even a birdie (yes the calls of bandit were flying!) before collapsing at the 9th and seeing a very good score (for me) go bad

I decided to lay up just before the fairway to get a shot into the green...

No points for hitting fairways, it is a game of how many. What is a fairway anyway, I never saw one out there.

I can happily say I hit the fairway. Might have been the 18th fairway though
Anyone hit the 1st on the Brabazon ?

Myself and Neil Beech both played the Brabazon with our second shot. Our balls were only about five feet apart too (so to speak!)

John P - have a look at the photo's, you seem to be heading for the fairway on that. OK, it's not the right one...

Paul,
you have avoided the question.... where did your 'safe' tee shot go?
Reply : Mon 16th Mar 2009 15:27
I was in the 4th group and hit driver, playing it safe is for wimps i ended up in the left bunker under the furthest point lip splashed out hit the green with a chip then proceeded to 3 putt which seem to continue through the round 3 putting at least 6 times
i must say though i thought those greens were not in very good condition lightning quick as they were fooled me many times as well as missing the hole but they were very bobbly
great course with a lot of bunkers which i hit most of them
and just a quick thanx to chris for organising a great event which went without any problems
thanx

Well I was not used to the high temperature and the sun being out so I sensibly headed for the shade of the big Oak on the 18th!!

what do you mean 1st groups tee shots were the worst...........?
me and chris both had the same plan.........get at least 1 shot off the brabazon..........lol
hit a hook into the rough on the brabazon clipped a pw under the tree but over the bunker to about 25 foot and nailed the putt for a birdie,my plan worked to perfection

Lee,we in the first group were the smartest whats the point of hitting the fairway when you could tee up lovely in the rough.Lol.

I heard there were some pretty generous gimmes as well , except for our group who putted out everything.
Reply : Mon 16th Mar 2009 20:54
No one in our group got to anywhere near gimme length on those greens.

The 2nd group definitely had the best tee shots but didn't Santo hit the bunker ten yards in front and to the right on the 2nd shot?...haha
Both Lee Miller and I had used the same ball - Titleist 4 - and they both ended up 2 yards apart in the same bunker on the left... got out safely, hit the green for 3 and 2 putted for a 5. good start for me.
Well done to Neil for getting a birdie on the first though.

Reply : Tue 17th Mar 2009 12:37
ah, so he was someone else's 'secret weapon' then?...haha
Reply : Tue 17th Mar 2009 12:58
Only spin you can generate Santo is sideways off the driver!
Reply : Tue 17th Mar 2009 16:35
Kev,
The caddy had no chance Santo was telling him he hits a 7 iron 170yrds & that screwed everything up
