Golfshake Regional Qualifiers - Yorkshire
After some chat, it has been decided to split up the North East area with regards to the regional qualifiers. to this end, Yorkshire will have its own qualifying event, covering the Yorkshire area, which is still the same size if not larger than some other areas.
I will be willing to run the event, holding it at Aldwark Manor, just outside York, which is pretty much central.
I can get a deal for around £25-£30 per player, which will cover coffee & bacon roll, golf and prize fund for on the day. There might be some prizes from Golfshake, but that is not confirmed, hence the prize fund.
I would be looking at trying to hold the event on a weekend in June or July.
As i would have to cover the booking costs etc, i need to know what interest there will be to play this event.
I do not want to book 36 places, if the interest is for a far greater number, as i would like to offer any member of Golfshake a chance to enter the Regional Comp.
So, if you can please reg your interest either here or by e-mail to [email protected] i would be grateful.
I will see what interest there is by the 1st of April and book accordinally.
for those interested, the summer league is holding an event there on the 24th May, so if you want some practice, come and join us! Use the link below or look on golfshake for the event:

Al,
Be aware that East Mids is in June and people may want to do both as they are adjoining (as long as they are allowed). West Mids is tentatively planned for 12 July

Second attempt so an even shorter precis.
I've played at Aldwark Manor a few times in society comps. At first sight I thought it was just another golf course attached to a hotel but was told it was an open qualifier course.
The opening par 4's 2-4 look reachable and the big hitters can reach them though they're not the largest of greens and all well bunkered. Laying up with a three iron makes for straightforward pitches for par though each hole is incrementally tighter with the fourth being first encountrer with the river on left, trees on right.
A bridge over the river takes you to par 3 fifth.
The sixth is a dogleg with rough/bunker on right if you push/slice/try to cut too much off and chance of running out of fairway on the lefti f you pull/hook.
The seventh is a big ask to hit in regulation and wont happen if there's a wind against. Beware a big drive to the right as the river is there.
The eighth has rough to left and river/ditch to right.
Ninth is uphill and my big drive ended up as a big pull OOB in a field.
The tenth brings a dilemma with a well struck drive as it's reachable but surrounded by water and a sloping green as I recall.
Elenventh and twelth are not really memorable but a brief respite for the last six.
The thirteenth runs alongside the river to the left and requires a good accurate second to be putting.
Back over the river.
The fourteenth is a great hole with the green accesible over a beechers brook of bushes and mounds which is where my second went unfortunately.
The sixteenth is a dogleg but reachable over the trees.
The seventeenth looks inviting if you're hitting long and straight, if not a field or a big tree will do you.
The eighteenth is a nice finisher guarded by water and a push will find you in the trees.
In conclusion, varied holes though some of the fairways around nine and ten were a bit inconsistent and scrappy, greens were ok and there are a lot of holes that warrant merit. I can see why it is a qualifier course in the Open as it does reward bravery but that bravery needs to be backed up by a straight and true shot or you'll be struggling. Well worth a play as it does make you think about course management...only after you've played of course. I hope to see some of you chaps there.

Al and all,
Are you allowed to play in more than one qualifier? I'm registered with the East Midlands (home) event in June. I'd like to register a tentative intention for York because it's quite a way from me and I don't want to exclude someone from their own regional competition.

Allan, Aldwark are offering ridiculously cheap prices at the moment...I don't know whether that's due to winter or what. Just thought it might help in your negotiations.

Patrick, yes good Idea...if someone has a car that can hold 4 sets of clubs with trolleys. mine will only hold 2 sets of clubs and 2 trolleys.
I need to know the date soon as I often work weekends and may need to take the day off.
