Golf Spikes

Just out of interest how often do you guys change your spikes? I suppose it depends how many rounds you play, so lets say im playing once a week, anyone thoughts?

Nigel,

I use the Champ Stinger Spikes (Pro versions in the Winter) they have a wear indicator built in. when you cant make out the marking its time to change. But in all honesty, any sort of damage to the cleat will result in loss of performance so change them if damaged.

If you play once a week probably wear out fairly quick. but it depends on the terrain. lots of paths and hard surfaces will damage them quicker

Price wise I'm not sure, you can usually get a deal on Directgolf.co.uk but you'd probably need to get 2 sets. Bit of a hunt mate unfortunatly.

I get mine when i'm in the states most of the time.

Americangolf.co.uk - onlinegolf.co.uk  - nevadabobs - there are loads on there mate.

I use spikes in winter, soft spiders in summer. Always have a spare set of softs with you as some courses other than your local may require you to change them. Re wear and tear (hopefully not the green) when you start slipping is the time you need to change them.

Funny, I've never thought about changing mine.  I've replaced the odd lost one but that's it.  Given my shoes are over a year old, perhaps it would be a good time to change them.

Chris,

You should deffo change your spikes after a year, I tend to change mine every 3-4 months & keep any 'good ones' as spares.

I changed mine after a recent visit to the Belfry.  Still gave everybody a bit of a laugh as I hit the deck, complete with bag, and filled my pockets up with West Midlands mud...

I will have a quick look at my spikes every now and again.

Normally I check the front one most, they are the ones that I find will wear away the quickest.

Tim,

I had forgotten about that,  I think on the 15th March we should have a plaque that reads "here lay Tim Hawkins...."

Yes this credit crunch will certainly 'spike' the spending, we'll have to improvise new dickory dos out of cut down old wellies and barbed wire.
