Deposits!
I run a winter and a summer league.
These are both done through a website and I normally only see the people I'm playing golf with at an event.
Now when I book a golf course I normally try and find ones that don't require a deposit.
But for my summer league this year I've widened the area I will use and this allows me to select some better courses to play.
The first one I've chosen is Blakes GC, using their description it's an inland links course. I've spoken to a few people and they have all given me good feedback on this course. Seeing as I haven't played here yet I decided to book it.
The only problem is that they want £10 a person deposit.
Now I've booked for 32 players, which isn't hard to achieve for a good course.
The problem is I'm unemployed and there is no way I can/would pay out £320 to pay the deposit.
Now I think I'm going to get back in touch with them and explain the problem, and hopefully between us we can come up with an exceptable solution.
What normally happens with my events is that a few 'die hards' wlll book their place straight away, then as we get nearer to the event other people put their names down to play.
I'll probably try and book for 10 or 12 players and then add extra tee times as the deposits come in.
Allan, how do you overcome this problem with your league?
I've got a game at Stapleford Abbotts GC on the 15th March so I can get the deposit from the people there who are also going to be playing at Blakes.
Also, do I mess about with cheques or should I just use Paypal, but I have to pay for that as well!
Let me know what you think about deposits.

Oli, that sounds like a good idea.
When I phone the club on Monday I'll try and get them to give me a fixed amount for the deposit.
