Golfshake review in golf monthly

Posted by: user112040 | Sun 22nd Feb 2009 09:50 | Last Reply

Anyone seen the golfshake review in golf monthly(page 86)? Under the segment " make sense of your scores"

Darren must be chuffed? or out of pocket only joking Dazza!

Basically its a short factual review that ends by making the point that the stats area could be improved with " a little expert advice " but given the amount of the so called experts on here lately could we make sure they stick to the golf, not pick arguments with everyone and that they understand that not everyone will agree with their comments!

After all this is an open GOLF forum for debate. ,      !

They have to find copy for their magazine, so I am sure they are always looking around for something interesting to write about and no one can say that Golfshake has not ben interesting these past couple of days.

Interesting maybe although I have my own opinion about the seeming 'witch hunt'.

If the stat area can be improved, does anyone have suggestions? I like it the way it is but am no expert!

I have no idea, Dennis, as I do not use the stats facility on Golfshake, that was not why I joined. My interest whaas to find like minded people to play golf with in a friendly competitive way.

The forums have been building up slowly to a core amount of regular posters, but just of late we have been getting spammers and trolls.

I have used "Game Tracker" on another Web Site for a couple of years now, a US based one so I also have an unofficial US Hcp (+1.2).

I came to this Site because its UK people on here.

There is one Stat that I keep that I think is very useful to aid Putting improvement.

When you reach the Putting surface, you judge how far you are from the pin and note it. At the end of the round add these distances up and devide by the number of Putts. Then keep a check on that figure, you may be surprised what it can tell you.

LOL.

I only use the tracking to put my core scores in providing me with my (dismal) handicap.

As for the forums, I have been keeping away because of the spam and trolls. Hopefully wont be ongoing as I would then look elsewhere which would be a shame (or just boycott the forums alltogether).

A possible improvement from my perspective as a high handicapper would be the facility to mark holes as a blob rather than having to put a number in.  If I pickup on a hole, which I have been doing alot of recently to speed play (or more ofter cos I'ce cocked up bigtime), I'm not interested in the gross score as it gives a false impression of the round.  It would be good if you could either signify on any one hole that you picked up or to have a tickbox like the 'include round in handicap' one for 'incomplete round' or similar which then replaces the gross score with a n/a or similar.  This would also trigger the round not being included in your handicap tracking or offer such things.  I'd still like to see the analysis for the hole some maybe just a tag like the P and H symbol to indicate it included blobs.  Anyway it would not benefit many but would benefit me.

I see that only one thing is missing.

If you reach a par 5 in two, or drive a par 4, does the software adjust your Stats?

Or can it be added. eg STAT:- Hit 420 par 5's in 2 = 20%

Par fives have always been the bonus holes throughout my time in golf but the modern par fives are very long and the average amateur does not even get home in three shots. We have three par fives on the Wellington that take some hitting in three shots.

You're not wrong John....for me that 5th hole is a tad long!

The fift is a joke of a hole IMO. It is the ditches across the fairway that means we cannot get there in three shots as it requires two tremendous hits to get over the first dith to give yourself a chance at going for the green. I usually play this hole with a drive and three 8 irons.

Well they got the £3.90 out of me

Not a bad article and I'll be the first to admit some improvements to the stats but I shan't detail them here   feel free to PM me any suggestions plus look out for some updates very soon.

Given this I think it's time to start a golfshake.com press page
