Anyone else been clobbered by a golf ball?
This morning I was playing in the semi final of our winter pairs. My partner and I were playing a little below average and were 2 down after 5 holes although I was only 2 shots over. On the 4th hole one of the opposition shanked an approach shot which nearly took my partner out, apologies were offered and we had a little laugh about it on the walk to the 5th. While on the 6th we were all around 100 yards from the green and as I was closest I stood a little in front of square to the same opposing player but well out of the way to the left, he's a left hander. Just before the ball was shanked and smashed into the side of my head at a velocity I don't want to know, I was thinking 'this is going to bloody hit me'! The match was immediately abandoned and my playing partner Ian Prince took me to Warwick hospital where I was told I was very lucky and only needed 4 stitches to repair the hole in my head. I'm now sat at home watching bloody 'Friends' on the TV whilst also reading the updates on the 'Direct Golf thread which seems to have now gone into surreal banality! I'm currently feeling like I've just gone 10 rounds with Tyson.
Anybody else experienced or witnessed similar?
Paul

Paul, I hope you recover quickly. This thread is relevant to the post I've just made on 'putting'. Calverley GC in Leeds has 7 blind tee shots and there's a fair few parallel holes. My regular partner was hit by a wayward drive very near the crown Jewels just two weeks ago. No one on the tee could have known this and it's not 'til it happens that you realise what you're letting yourself in for.Another playing partner will only play at my course as a last resort because of this.

Wow, that is real bad luck (although lucky you are not worse off!!)
Luckily never been hit but only been playing for a year.
Is this where golf insurance comes in?

Sorry to hear of your collision with a golf ball Paul.
You would think that being to one side of another player you would be safe, but how wrong can we be?
Reminds me of a round of golf my brother-in-law and I played a good few years ago at Austerfield Golf and Country Club (now called Bawtry GC I think)
We joined up with a man and his wife on the first tee as it was busy.
My brother-in-law played off 15 at the time but he could hit a ball.
We played up to the third tee and nothing was amiss, we all seemed to be hitting the ball well.
The lady had a habit of walking forwards to the ladies tee whilst we teed off.
Well after hitting some lovely shots my brother-in-law thinned his drive and with one bounce hit the lady on the lower leg!
We went over and she said she was fine and indeed she finished the round, but she never went to the ladies tee until we had teed off again!
You never know when somebody is going to hit a bad shot, even the pros do it.
I hope you get better soon.
