Left handed grip, Right handed golfer.
We all know about some people using the left handed/ left hand lower grip whilst putting but how common is it for a right handed golfer to use a left handed interlocking grip during the rest of the game and can anyone suggest a benefit or reason why? I personally know of 3 people who use and play well with this grip. 1 looks like a corkscrew during his swing but regularly shoots 86 to 91. Another doesn't look as ungainly but has broken 80 and regularly shoots 82 to 85. With the third person you can't tell unless you actually study him from the front and again he shoots around the 85 mark.

I have not come across such a player in years, Chris but when I was playing in Essex in the very early sixties there was a scratch golfer from Wanstead Golf club, by the name of O'Connor who used this method. He was a lovely striker of the ball.

I have tried to swing a club using this grip but it feels so awkward. No problems swinging lefthanded with it though. They feel the same when they change to a conventional grip as well.

The 'Big Break' show on Setanta has a competitor who plays golf right handed but has his left hand below his right on the club.
It doesn't look to good and his swing didn't look the greatest, but he did connect with the ball well.

When I first picked up a golf club I played this way, from about age 12 to 15.

Stuart,
funny thing that with you writing left handed, my father did everything else right handed but played golf left handed.
I wonder if there are any ambidextrous people who can play golf equally as well left or right handed?
