in your bag

Posted by: user81725 | Sat 7th Feb 2009 20:11 | Last Reply

What do you carry in your golf bag, besides clubs, I recently started carrying my bag giving up on the trolley it's the best move I've made, but I have noticed it is getting heavier everytime I go out lol, had a bit of a clear out and was amazed at the ammount of items I had in it, inluding around 40 golf balls. So what do you carry around ?

Just out of interest - why do you prefer to carry?

Carrying is the easiest way to get around a golf course.

Callaway Stand Bag

12 balls

Assorted tees/pitch mark repairer/pencils/pencil sharpener/ball markers (all in a large pencil case)

3 towels (one on me, one on bag and a spare)

3 gloves (one wet weather)

Rules of golf book

Yardage chart

Golf club diary

Waterproofs

Shower/wind top

Waterproof hat

Woolie hat

Baseball cap

Winter mits

Flask (Bovril & Pepper)

I like to carry my bag during the winter months, it helps to speed up play and keep me warm at the same time.  Once the weather starts to get wetter then I put my trolley away and carry my bag.  Then during the spring I'll go back to the trolley.  Normally I wait until it's noticable that play is slowing up so therefore I lose any advantage of carrying.

In the summer I use a trolley and carry everything including the kitchen, bathroom and downstairs cloak room sink.

In the winter when I cannot use a trolley, I use a pencil bag and carry:-

Driver or 3 wood (depending on which one is behaving), 2 and 4 hybrid, 6, 8 irons, PW, SW and putter.  Half a dozen balls a pocket full of tees, towel, pitchmark repairer and a glove.

The only draw back is that unless I pick the weather conditions correctly when choosing my mode of dress it can get a little cold and wet.

I used to use a trolley all the time after carrying for the first few months I played and then before Christmas a trolley ban meant I had to dig out my old stand bag.  After a couple of rounds I realised I preferred carrying and the reason I had gone to a trolley and cart bag was that I didn't like the bag.  Got a new (decent) stand bag and became a convert to the old ways.

Jonny,

I recently read a study where they compared golfers fitness & concentration levels between bag carriers & trolley users. There was apparently no difference in fitness levels but found that the carriers concentration levels fell towards the end of the round. Don't know how true it is??

I have really enjoyed carrying my bag during the winter months but will go back to my electric trolley in the Spring as I tend to carry a few more things in my bag during that time & my poor knees won't be able to take the strain.

John.
