Essex County Coaching Scheme
Got the letter today Nat has got into to the Essex County Scheme for the 4th year running so now its hard work for him, has to get his hany cap down to 18 or under to get into the Ur13s next year he is 26 adult handy cap at the moment can play to a lot lower but at his golf club he has to have a adult who is a member to go round with him or a comp his junior orgineser will not accept the card when he is in a comp at Crowlands Heath Golf Club Nat's coach who is part owner and a Essex Coach is really cross.. Its a pitty that no one at his golf club will play with him, there are a lot of good cadets but then I have a feeling there dads do not want to help as Nat is in compatision to there children one boy is the same age much taller has a very low handy cap very good player Nat is only 4ft 5in tall this other boy must be 5ft or over and very well built have been told by his coach that as soon as Nat starts to grow he will start to hit the ball a lot longer he can hit about 180 yards at the moment most of the time he hits it stright down the fairway. Thank you for all your suport and thank you Ross for ofering to play with him some times.

Surelyif the Essex County Golf Union are sponsoring this scheme for young golfers of ability then there would be no charge.
It appears to me that this is just a scheme to allow this professional to have groups of young lads under his control and at the same time charging them for lessons. Even these are given by his assistant Nick Rose.
You mention £25 a time, which is pretty exhorbitant especially when I can see no improvement from what has been shown on this forum.
My advice would be to forget this con and find a pro who is interested in Nats' improvement. It will be cheaper and more productive, both in the short term and in the long run.

There is no charge they get 5 days which last 6 hours every year. The £25 is for 1 to 1 coaching for 1/2 an hour coaching all year round which is what a lot of pros charge in London. It is not a con http://www.essexgolfunion.org/Junior%20Golf.htm I really do not know why you have this attitude we are not being conned this is a scheme whch has been going on for years Nick Faldo is one of there old boys as are some the golfers in the England Squad.

I think John is just concerned that they are building up your hopes to keep charging you and that Nat may be better served by a good pro looking after him 1:1 than him being part of a group. If Nat is already playing off 26 there is obviously some talent there and knowing John as I do he will only want Nat to get the most out of his talents.
The key for Nat is playing to hone the things he has been taught. If no-one at his club will play with him, perhaps you should consider looking for a more supportive club? It doesn't really matter whether Nat can submit cards from every round; as long as he is playing he will improve and when he can submit cards his handicap will come down.
Given your personal circumstances, it probably would've been better if Nat was really good at a cheaper sport, but it's commendable that you are continuing to support him.

Thank you, Chris, you put things so much better than me.
We all know how hard this game is and if the proper instruction is not received then progress will never be made.
I don't like to see Heather throw away good money on poor instruction and from what I can see from this operation that is exactly what is happening.
It is no use quoting that Faldo came through as a youngster because he would have made it on his own anyway as he was a perfectionist in everything he did in relation to the golf swing.
I am just diappointed that I do not live in that neck of the woods as Nat sounds just the young man that would have given me pleasure in teaching.

Nick Rose is a very good coach I am very happy with what he has taught Nat over the last 3 years, he is graduly sorting out Nats swing one thing at a time he knows that there are some things wrong he will deal with these to do it all at once would be very hard for a young boy so to do it bit by bit is best, there are golfers who come to Nick from miles away.

I hardly think, Heather, with respect that you would not klnow whether or not he is a good coach.
So he is going to spend a long while ironing out eeach fault that Nat supposedly has instead of teaching him the basics so that he swins correctly in the first plac.
I am sorry, Heather but you are going about this in the wrong manner if you wish to see Nat become a good amateur or possibly a professional. It would be nice to know what the ambition is.
3 years off instruction and from the videos you posted so much wrong thatg the instruction must be rubbish, sorry that is the way I see it.

Congratulations to Nat for getting onto the coaching scheme.
I hope he enjoys it and it's worth the effort.
Hopefully we'll get out for a round of golf soon, weather permitting.

Thanks Russ for congratulating Nat there are lots of children who go for the triles and only a few chosen which I feel is a great achevement. Its great honour to get chosen by your county to have coaching with them and as its for free all the better. Looking forward to meeting you and you can then see Nat play thanks again.
