YMCA Worcester Charity Golf Day - Report
Copy of article going in the local Worcester paper................................................. Worcester YMCAInaugural Golf Charity Day15th October 2008At Ombersley Golf Club
High Noon on Wednesday 15th October 2008 at Ombersley Golf Club saw Golfshake 1st Team (one of two Golfshake teams) tee off and begin the Inaugural Worcester YMCA Golf Charity Competition. 8 other teams (making a total of 35 competitors) followed their lead as the rain clouds scattered and the weather held off for a great day of golfing.
Golfers of all abilities were on show, from a scratch handicapper to players who struggled to know which end of the club to hold, and all enjoyed the wonderful surroundings as they drove, or hacked, their way around the beautiful 18 hole course.
The event was held in order to raise funds for a new communal area for the residents at the YMCA and its estimated that the final figure raised could be in excess of £500.00. There was a raffle and a “lost ball sweepstake” as well as a Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin prizes.
All the awards were donated by various local businesses including Leisure Connection, Perdiswell Park Golf Club, Café Spa and the online golfing community site, Golfshake.com and the trophies were donated by Trophies Direct. Other companies that sponsored the event were: The Garage, Worcester Volunteer Centre, and Your Choice Recruitment Ltd.
The eventual winners, in a very close finish, were Golfshake A Team (the other Golfshake team), sponsored by 3DCubed. The other teams, who all donated to the cause, were: Adrian Thompson Design Practice, Harrison Clark Solicitors, Worcester Lions Club, Perdiswell Park Golf Club, The Oddballs, Golfshake 1st Team and two teams made up of staff and residents from the YMCA.
Comments by participants of the Golf Day so far………..“The whole day was fantastic, the event was well supported, the course was very nice and it remained dry all day. The evening meal was excellent, nice piece of roast beef……..”“Having organised an event and knowing how painful it can be, a big well done goes out to Dave and Tom for organising a well run event. Great event and I'm sure that if it runs again next year the support will be even better. ““Superb day. Company was good which made the golf secondary on the day. ““Great day and as usual great company, especially the rivalry between the two teams. Good course for a competition……………..”
So, a great day was finished with a superb 3 course meal and prize ceremony and everyone was invited back to next year’s event on 15th July 2009. If you would like any information about next year’s event, or would like to make a donation to this year’s one, contact either Dave Knatt or Tom Saint on 01905 423197 or email [email protected] or [email protected]. Now, anyone know how I can post the piccys?

Ace mate, although if Golfshake put a team in next year I'll have to think of rebranding my two teams of superstars.
Lets see if anyone stands up to the challenge!

Dave
have managed to bribe/threaten a Gloucester Roofing company to put a team in next year if there's room, and there may be a possibility of a few of the US parent company executives over who might fancy it - lets get this International!
