Moe Norman

Never heard of him until today, I'm amazed at the ability of the man having had a good read about him over the last 7 hours or so, I wish I had heard of him before I lifted a golf club, it seems thinking too much abot how to hit the ball and to quote Moe " I'm going to put this dumb guy (the golf club) onto that dumb guy (the golf ball)" and off he went, straight and true with no thought of why or how....superb, what a pity the golfing world decided to he didn't fit in we lost a special talent.

You have just admitted that you had not even heard of the man until last October, whereas, I, on the other hand have known of him for many years.

He may be a great ball striker, but we all know it takes more than that to be a successful tour pro. It is not my fault that he could not cope with the pressure of winning and I doubt very much if anyone had taken him under their wing, whether or not it would have made any difference.

He hits balls every day of his life, he appears happy, and he has made his choices in life.  His swing is not for the purists but it is repetitive.

He was not defeated by snobbery, no matter how much you try and convince yourself it is so.

If a man does not make full use of an ability, no matter in whatever field he has failed himself and deprived the rest of the world of those abilities.

I lived in Spain for three years and played two or three times a week with the local pro. His name was Juan Parron. I doubt anyone has ever heard of him.

He was another Moe Norman. He used to hit every green in regulation everry time I played with him as well as htting the four par fives in two every time. He is the best striker of a golf ball I have ever seen in my lifetime.

I asked why he did not play the tour, as with his ability, I know I could have made a fortune, but his reponse was that he went to pieces when in a competition.

I can sympathise with Moe getting stewed up about the possibility of winning and having to make a speech as I too suffered with this in my younger days. Even to this day I hate having to stand up and make a speech and that is why I never offer myself up as a Captain. I am quite content just to to be a participant.

I came second so many times, yet it never affected me, because I could always console myself with the fact that I did not have to make the winners speech.

We are all different in our make-up and very little can be done by anyone to alter ones frame of mind on certain things.

Moe was a great striker and exceptional amateur, but did not have the mental make-up to capitalise on his natural ability to hit a golf ball. Sad, I know, but it is not the fault of anyone but himself.

Anyone who hits as many golf balls a day as Moe does will almost certainly become an excellent striker of a golf ball, but that alone is not sufficient to be a succesful professional.
