Im playing the Pinhal, Millenium and Laguna courses and all are requesting handicap certificates. Does anyone know if the Golfshake card is accepted?

Any course that requires a handicap cert is too good for you, you hacker!!!

Just give them a call mate.  A lot of courses say they want one and then don't even bother asking when you turn up.  9 times out of 10 it's to make sure they get people with a modicum of a game and an understanding of etiquette to prevent a bunch of beered up chavs chopping up the course because they thought it would be fun to try golf while on holiday.  If you can tell them you're off 25.8, that's accurate enough for them to know that you're not making it up.

I'm pretty sure if you have one of Darren's spangly platinum accounts then the handicap card will be fine, but make sure you check first.

Lee, having witnessed the rubbish that is played on the courses in Portugal, we have nothing to worry about. I have never been asked for a handicap certificate ever in the Algarve.

I see you are playing at Vilamoura.

I played in a Pro-Am at Vilamoura Old in the seventies, won a TV in fact but gave it away to a local portuguese family. In those days the other course at Vilamoura was called Dom Pedro, but I believe that is now Pinhal. I have played Laguna, which is very nice but have not played Millenium or the latest one built.

Salgados I thought was a dump, but pretty cheap.

I have played Vale de Lobo, Quinta de Lago, Penina, Palmares( Iused to play in the "Almond Blossom Championship" every year in the 70's), Parque de Floresta (Mountain Goat course)and Morgado de Reguenga(North of Portimao), which I like very much.

I am spending at least four weeks in the Algarve in Feb/Mar 2009 so will get a few games in. Hoping to meet up with the Golfshake boys out on their annual get together.

I might add that there are some very nice courses in the Eastern Algarve and well worth the drive.

Hi Lee

I played all of the oceanic courses in early july 2008 , i was never asked to produce an handicap certificate once , it's worth asking most of the courses about the special offers  they do , i found that booking at the actual course was far cheaper than booking through an agent, can't wait to go back and play  again happy golfing.

Hi Lee

When i played Millenium, Pinhal and Laguna all three were offering deals which included eighteen holes of golf, a buggy and a set of calloway clubs and balls all for 32 euros worth noting for future reference.

Hi lee, sorry it's been a while, all these deals were being offered direct from the clubs.
