Websites

Posted by: user81725 | Wed 3rd Sep 2008 11:07 | Last Reply

Any of you members here have thier own websites ? I am thinking of building a website charting my interests and sort of blogging my experiences through pictures and text, I'd be interested in others experiences on the subject.

I have my own, Pat and I have built a few for others. I started mine when I had my heart attack and was at home with nothing to do, almost two hundred pages now.

Pat,

I have designed a few sites & am currently working on one for Norwich City FC.

www.researchsandwell.org.uk

www.colinsfooty.co.uk

www.mabgolf.co.uk

www.roundhousenursery.co.uk

www.qiomts.co.uk

For hosting I use a company called easysapce.com

Good luck.

John.

Having looked at the source code for John F's websites, it is obvious he is a competent coder, although not many sites these days are produced by hand, too time consuming IMO.

For you Pat, all you need is a programme that lets you design how you want the page to look and then writes the code for you. Dreamweaver or NetObjects Fusion would be the way to go for you. You can always add things written in Javascript if you wish.

If you fancy something out of the ordinary then a website done with Macromedia Flash (Now Adobe) is another alternative.

One I am working on for a friend of mine at the moment: You will need the Flash plug-in to see it though.

I have always hosted with www.1and1.co.uk, which is the largest in Europe and signing up for their home package will give you all the added software you will need to build your site.  As you will have noticed I have about ten videos on my site.

I think you had the right idea with the Tour buses, as your cargo walks on an off, mine was a different kettle of fish.

Just back from the hospital looks like another bit of surgery to change my defibrillator, more time away from the course.

Flash 5 was the first flash program that I had and when I had my heart attack found it was a perfect opportunity to attempt to learn this very complicated programme. When I first opened it up I just did not know where to start, so went down to PC world and bought a book which I read from cover to cover about three times and then proceeded to work through their tutorial. The end result was a first attempt at a website for myself, when I look at it now it is pretty crude, although I still have it on file.

I only use dreamweaver for odd pages like putting up a javascript photo gallery.

You have all the time in the world now, Pat to learn software, not as interesting as golf, I agree, but the end results can be just as satisfying.

Get your domain name from 1and1.co.uk , sign up for their home package for hosting and get £400 of free software and in no time you will have a web presence, without having to learn HTML etc.

The intelligent-leads site is not yet finished, still waiting for some more input from my friend. His existing site can be seen at http://www.intelligent-leads.co.uk and initially he just wanted me to act as webmaster for that site and maintain it. But to keep me occupied whilst I was off with my knee I thought I would try and re-vamp it for him and I decided to do it in flash as it is a programme I know very well now.

As long as it is after the 22nd Sept, so that I can play at South Winchester, I am not too bothered.

I wish, J P, I do not have the flair or imagination to come up with good ideas in the design field, I can however alter any .fla(Flash file) to suit the content. as I can alter any html and javascript.

What I do with the Flash Template is use Dynamic text as opposed to static text, linking this to a variable in flash and then to a text file. This means it is then easy to change any text on the site to suit. I have a comprehensive library of symbols and movie clips which I use to add the whistles and bells.

It would be impossible for a novice to do it. Flash is a complex programme.
