Never Let The Weather beat You
Sunday morning and as usual breakfast before putting clubs in boot and off to course we go. It was hammering it down and it never entered my head that the course could be shut - on arrival I set up gear and off I went to the chipping area and driving range.
Very few cars in the car park which again, did not trigger any thoughts of possible closer. I hit ball after ball waiting for my partners to turn up and when Tony arrives he says "it shut eh"- What I say's "I am off to Turkey Wednesday and must have my fix."
So after some deliberation in the rain we went off to another course which is never closed unless snowed on. When we arrived, the nice man with a cheesey grin say's "we shut and if you look at the 18th green you will see why"
Now what, ah Tony say's what about High Throston - that's higher up and may be open so out with the mobile this time before proceeding further and yes it was open and we could play so off we went.
It seems that the very heavy rain had not reached Throston until we arrived and it was hammering it down - by the 3rd tee we were drenched to the skin and so it went until the 9th when the rain give way to glorious sunshine and a lovely breeze.
The rest of the round was brilliant and we even managed sub 90 scores. Why it was open I will never know but glad it was....
Moral of the story is never let the weather beat you - .......

You guys are hero's, Robbie, I do not even think about it unless the forecast is no chance of any precipitation.

Played friday afternoon weather not bad, cloudy but dry. played total rubbish even by my standards, played today, light drizzle but looked as if it might dry up,played very well [by my standards ] hit fairways even got out of a bunker in one, then we got to the sixth and it chucked it down, as we went to the seventh we were very glad to hear the hooter to close the course, but i was a bit peeved since i was playing well. i'm playing tomorrow if dry, probably back to rubbish.

Problem with us guys is that we really feel as if we are missing something if we don't get our weekly fix...
And if it rains we get chance to wear our silly hats....
But Tony's is sillier than mine......
Off to Turkey for two weeks tomorrow so catch up again soon...

No mate just a family holiday - too hot for me to golf....
Two whole weeks with not even a practice swing, I have a feeling the bath towel drill may get some hammer...

I've heard about the bath towell drill, but don't you have to wear a gimp hat to do it properly!!!

Well they say your inhibitions are reduced when on holiday, but there's no need to share it with us all.
I feel sorry for the maid; she'll have to handle 'em afterwards!!!

I'm an American, and we hate rain on the golf course except when it's night.
Played St. Andrew's last month and the starter told me about an American who had a tee time at the Old Course and didn't play because it was raining and windy. Well duh, it's always rainy and windy at St. Andrews and even I knew that going in. Now he was a moron. Paid all that money and didn't play.
Then the owner of the B & B I stayed at later told me that all American's hate playing in the rain so I didn't feel so bad.
BUT I PLAYED, and not only played, I played 36 holes per day in the wind and rain.
