Waterproofing spray

Posted by: user28838 | Sat 5th Jul 2008 22:35 | Last Reply

Reading Todays Golfer I noticed that it mentions sprays and waxes which can make your leaky shoes waterproof again.

I have an old pair of adidas which are really comfortable but they started letting water in badly. Has anyone tried these sprays or waxes and, if so, do they work, and which ones can you recommend?

Not tried them myself but it sounds like they may be on the shelf with magic beans.

I used to spray it on a pair of Adidas shoes.  Works quite well, but bear in mind that much of the water comes in through the laces.  Need to spray it on outside though because it stinks!

The ScotchGuard stuff is the only one I'd recommend.  Use it on my walking boots and clothing - best to start doing it when they're brand new.  We use cans of the stuff what with all the horse tack, walking stuff and now golf gear.

Do it in a well ventilated room or preferably outside though, unless you're fond of solvent highs!

If it's for clothes, I recommend something called Nikwax.  They do one for stuff that is already waterproof for reprotecting and one for stuff that isn't waterproof but you want it to be.  You just put it in the washing machine with the clothing.  I used it to waterproof a fleece I use to play golf on colder mornings and it works well.  Smells like copydex though!!!

You can get it from Blacks or Millets and probably many other good outdoor activity based retailers (probably a few rubbish ones as well!).
