Mate of mine (Chris Curry , Matt). bought his irons from America in his front room. Took 3 days to deliver to the door and saved a packet...Obviously not fitted but food for thought...

If you are planning on travelling to the US, take a travel case with you with an old bag in (doesn't matter if it has clubs in or not). Use this to transport your new clubs back (minus the packaging) and if you are asked to open it you can argue that they were cleaned by the course you played at.

Greg
I'm about to buy Mizuno MP-60's and have had them custom fitted (this is crucial to get not only the size fit but the appropriate shaft) - they're awesome - check the web for reviews from other people too.
The MP-67's recommended by Jonathan above are one step more advanced and incredible but very unforgiving - even the golf shop pro's I've spoken to use the 60's. I could hit the MP-67 3I and 6I fine in a straight line, but deliberately fading them showed me they're too advanced for me (lost 30-40 yards due to non-perfect strikes).
Many people say Mizuno's are the best irons, but to be sure they were right for me, I also tried Ping S58's (higher score than MP-60's in one magazine that reviewd them, but I thought they were chunky and boring); Nike CCi's (similar to S58's but not quite so easy); Callaway X-Forged (high flight, boring) and Srixon i701tour (didn't get on with this, maybe due to length or shaft, who knows).
The Mizuno's above, like people say, cut like a sharp knife through butter and are the most awesome shot-making clubs.
I won't go into the detail, but recent experiences have shown me how important the shaft choice is for players of your standard and better, not only for irons but also woods. Try different shafts if you can and, better still, confirm they're right by getting the spin rates, speed of ball off club face, etc. checked.
Good luck
Hugh
