congratulations
Don't know if Monty reads this forum but i would like to congratulate him on his marriage, and hope it returns him to winning ways.
Also the commentary of golf comps. by Peter Alliss makes watching so much more enjoyable, lets start a campaign to have him knighted.

I think Monty's days at the top of the leaderboard may be over. It will be interesting to see if Faldo picks him for the Ryder Cup if his form does improve.
Not so sure about a knighthood for Peter Alliss either. I thought the BBC had a good mix of commentators for the Masters and I still enjoy his commentary but I wouldn't put him in the same class as the greats from other sports like Dan Maskell or John Arlott.

Peter is not just a commentator, John, you are forgetting his services to this wonderful game for the past half century, including Ryder Cup appearances.

Difficult for me to comment on his abilities as a golfer as its a bit before my time, Overall I will concede then that I may not be the best judge of whether his contribution to golf merits a knighthood.
From the point of view of commentary I think he is at his strongest when talking about the playing of the game and his insights are obviously informed by the fact that he played the game to a high level.
However what I was trying to say was that as a wordsmith I do not think he is in the top class of the great sports journalists. There is probably another debate to be had in another thread as to whether top class sportsmen have improved or ruined sports journalism and presentation. For every Peter Alliss there are a number of Gary Linekars who are bad at their own sport and worse when they think they can comment on or present other sports.

Peter Alliss is the greatest.
