If you want a test of golf then it has to be Royal Troon, IMO.

It has hosted the open 8 times and is over 7000 yds long and the prevailing wind makes it one of the toughest back nines in golf.

The tough courses never look much, sit in the clubhouse looking out over Saunton and it looks like a moonscape, but amongst the dunes is one of the toughest courses in this country.

Like all links courses, when one catches them on a benign day they do seem to be rather tame, but once the wind gets up and the rain starts to lash down then they are not the place to be.

hi guys,

new to the forum, but not to gleneagles.

a magnificent golf club with 3 superb courses.

My favourite is the Kings course  which is fantastic regardless of the weather conditions.

think you have to be a links golfer to play royal troon, especially if the wind blows.

whichever you choose, lucky you, and enjoy                   &
