utility clubs degrees

Posted by: user30119 | Thu 9th Aug 2007 14:13 | Last Reply

As anyone on here done away with their fairway woods and replaced them Utility woods?

I have problems hitting woods from the fairway and was just thinking of replacing maybe my 3/5 wood  for a 16/18 degree utility wood.

I'm I right in thinking that a 21 degree would hit around the 5wood/3 iron distance? So what does a 16 or 18 compare to?

Yeah was thinking of keeping the 3 wood in the bag because I like hitting it from the tee if the driver is off colour and maybe getting a 16 degree Utility, wasnt sure if this wood just give me the same distance as a 3 wood.

I hit my 2R (18 degress) Cobra Baffler 200 yards, the 5 wood has been consigned to the garage.

Tried the 1R (16 degree) equivalent but do not the same sort of satisfactory results off the tee as I get with my 3 wood(15 degree), in fact I find it easier to hit my 3 wood off the deck that the 1R utility.

Looking at the Cobra website (the US one not the UK) they offer the following chart to put things in perspective:

1/R (16 degree)  :    3 Wood

2/R (18 degree)   :    5 Wood

3/R (20 degree)   :     7 Wood

4/R (23 degree)   :     9 Wood/4 Iron

5/R (26 degree)   :     5 Iron

My 3 wood is 15 degree but you would think it would get more distance than the Rescue club due to head size and extra shaft length.

Thanks for your input Matt

I use a Taylor made No 3 19 degree rescue club instead of a 5 wood, hitting it approx 180 yds. As the clubs shaft is shorter than a woods shaft I think that you would find it even easier to hit than a 5 wood.

Thats charts a great help James, like I say I carnt hit the 3 wood off the deck and my 21 Utility dont make up for it.  I'm stuck here because I hit the 3 wood sweet from the tee but need a 16 degree Utility for the fairway. Just dont make sense to carry two equal club?

This game stresses me out
