What the club says: Those who designed Southport's 'Muni,' as it is affectionately known, certainly knew their job. It is indeed flat and looks totally forgiving for the golfer arriving in the calm of a summer's morning. But it is among the best challenges of the region's pay-and-play courses.
One reason is it is virtually on the shore, exposed to the winds. For another, at almost 6,250 yards off the main tees (yellow 5903 par 70), it is reasonably long for a public course. Also, there are no downhill sloping fairways to hurry the ball along, 'shorten' the holes. This 'muni' is a course that plays its full length - and particularly when the wind comes in strong from the Irish Sea.

Worse than ever
This is worse than ever. They have dredged the ditches and just left all the muck and dredging on the fairways. It’s shocking, they just don’t care.Reviewer Rating

Bad golfers
The course is a little shoddy at times.Mainly from uncaring or unthoughtful players who don't treat the course with respect, I see players not replacing divots or not repairing pitch marks on the greens, last week I had to ask a group of 2 players not to park their buggy on one of the greens, The prices for a round are too low so people of no experience spend a 10er and just hack their way round, with prices this low there is not enough money to upgrade the course, Also the bad weather of late don't help,Reviewer Rating

Oh dear
The rates are reasonable and they offer a good value 9hole annual contract for under £250.The staff are friendly and helpful and the green keepers really put the effort in to try and keep the course in as good a condition as they can.
However poor positioning of rough and unkept ditches full of weed and grass, Fairways covered with daisies and dandelions and greens covered with goose s*** doesn't make their job any easier.
They need to think about things for instance 90% of golfers slice and yet the maintenance staff see fit to leave unkempt mounds of grass between parallel Fairways, to catch the slicers ball. which inevitably leads to slow play as the vast majoritiy of golfers using this course have little or no skill and that includes the club members of the attached clubs who seem to view it as their private course for which only they have the right to play.
Don't expect any courtesy or etiquette to be shown by them.

Very poorly looked after
Has the potential to be a great links course but for so long now has been neglected by Sefton Borough Council. Poor greens and rough that's quite simply neglected and out of control. Urgently needs a buyer so the course can become what it should be.Reviewer Rating

Straight hitters benefit
Stay straight and hit the fairways, you'll struggle to hit from the rough.A great course with forgiving fairways and straight hitters. Greens in good order but some damage on a couple that appears to be under repair. Could do with a decent rolling as bobbles tend to throw the ball out of line or slow them down. Great staff and spoke to several groups around the course having enjoyable times. Condition of course was dry and if you hit the fairway the ball bounded down them an extra 30+ yards.
Will be back during the summer to see if I have improved and the Greens have recovered.
Keep up the good work around the course and please roll the greens
