What the club says: Bernhard Langer has used the 180 acres of classical links terrain available to create a superb championship course that offers a exciting test to both professional and amateur golfers and combines the traditions of links golf along with the challenges of the modern game. As the great German says: "There are very few locations in Europe which could have allowed me the opportunity and landscape to design such a classic championship links".

The course has undergone some layout changes since I last played which are generally for the better. The par 4 8th has gone from an almost 90 degree right to left dog leg to a gentle left to right dog leg. There is a new par 3 9th running west to east rather than the previous north to south version. The 12th has been lengthened from a par 4 to a par 5. The 13th is reduced from a par 5 to a par 4 and 14th increased from a par 4 to a 5. The 15th is now a par 3 running parallel to the new 9th. A couple of small gripes would be the extreme level differences on the green of the new par 3 9th and the extremely elevated 12th green which has savage penalties off all sides if you don't manage to hold the green. It appears the 17th, still a par 3, will soon become a par 4 to make the course up to an overall par 72. Overall the course was in great condition and was an enjoyable challenge in the stiff breeze that was blowing the day I played.

First links experience

Not a windy day (lucky me!), great atmosphere, hope to come back and play there again! Friendliness of the people adds value; first time on a links, it’s quite a different approach to the game, but I definitely love it!

Superb beyond expectations

Golfshake Team ReviewWe were probably very lucky and played here in March and a sunny and exceptional calm day with little wind so the true links never really came into it.

Course and layout was fantastic, greens immaculate and one of the joys of my golfing experiences. A joy to play and a course well worth visiting especially because it suits all golfes an abilities, fantastic hospitality, lovely views and there is also onsite accommodation.

The Portmarnock links course is stunning with every detail ticked. If you want a tough challenging course with great fairways, bunkers and fast greens this is the place for you. We played it twice over 2 days the first day was very windy we played matchplay format both days England v Wales which I would recommend especially if you have never played a links course. We will be back again

Golfshake Team ReviewGolf course is out of this world.
Stunning links course by the sea with a mixture of long fiddly and long and straight.
If you aren't the straightest then driver not always the best option as rough can be tall and thick. Greens are super slick.
Some of the views from the higher points on the course are spectacular.

A pretty decent course, I wouldn't go there just to play it (though it's better than a lot of my local courses in essex) but if you're in the area to play portmarnoch of the K club this is worth adding to the itinary

The course is a lot of fun to play. There are challenging holes and easier holes. Teh front nine is good warm up to the real links starting at #8

The wind does blow on the coast - however, if you cannot afford to Play Portmarnock then give this a whirl. It backs onto the famous links course and in its own right is a good test of golf.
