Stay & Play in Cyprus - Alexander the Great Hotel
Thinking of treating yourself to some winter sun this year? Cyprus is fast becoming one of the must visit golfing destinations of the Mediterranean. From humble beginnings it now boasts some of the very best golf courses in Europe.
One destination leading the way in the Cypriot golfing revolution is Alexander the Great Beach Hotel which boasts a great location in Paphos and overlooks a 'Blue Flag' sandy beach. The hotel underwent a major renovation in 2012/13 with major improvements completed in March 2013.
Built on a archeological site dating back to 2000BC, Alexander the Great Beach Hotel has 202 luxury rooms, all with a balcony and spectacular views of the Medieval castle, Paphos fishing harbour, the pool and breath taking sea.
The hotel is also located perfectly for golfers with a range of world class golf courses within easy reach - Minthis Hills is 20 mins, Elea 10 mins, Aphrodite 10 mins. Plus Cypriots drive on the left so no difficulties for UK travelers should you wish to hire a car and explore not only the golf courses, but the beautiful countryside.

Elea Golf Club
Considered by some to be the 'jewel in the crown' of Cypriot Golf, Elea golf course was designed by 6 time major champion Sir Nick Faldo and since its opening in October 2010, it has become one of the "must play" golf courses in the Mediterranean.
The golf course was placed in the top 10 new international courses in 2010 by Golf Magazine (USA) one of the world’s biggest-selling golf journals, and is recognized by Golf World Magazine as ‘one of the world’s most exciting new golf courses’. The 5* clubhouse overlooks the stunning golf course layout and with one of golf’s greats behind the design it is an exciting part of the golf development that is making South West Cyprus a great golfing destination.
A combination of teeing areas means the course length can be varied from 5,700yards to 6,900 yards for men and 5,100 yards for ladies. With numerous bunkers guarding both the fairways and greens and large run off areas catching a mis-guided approach this is a great challenge for all. The layout makes its way among the natural elements of Carob trees and weathered limestone and offers fantastic views of the Mediterranean from all parts of the course.
Aphrodite Hills Golf
Aphrodite Hills golf course has become a firm favourite of golfing fans in the past decade and was designed by Cabell Robinson. The course offers stunning views over clear seas. The course measures in at 6800 yards and is a championship golf course lined with Olive and and Carob trees but feels relatively open. The signature hole is the 7th, an iconic par 3 with a tee shot over a 130 m gorge that will take your breath away!
Aphrodite Hills is also perfect for those looking to practice before the big game. If you are interested in golf tuition then the Aphrodite Hills Golf Academy will be sure to cater to all your needs, with PGA Professionals on hand with helpful advice.
After your game you can visit the stunning club house and enjoy a wide selection of wines and beers, you could even try some traditional Cypriot cuisine.
Minthis Hills Golf
Formally known as Tsada Golf due to its location on the hills of Tsada, Minthis Hills is a beautiful golf course that weaves throughout the grounds of a 12th Century monastery and provides wonderful views of the Cypriot countryside.
Minthis was originally created by Donald Steel and later renovated by Mackenzie + Ebert in 2006/2007. It is a par 71 and measures 6300 yards, so although not the longest of golf courses there are plenty of opportunities to really test your golfing skills. Minthis is on the outskirts of the town of Paphos. The golf course benefits from a lovely sea breeze thanks to its elevated position of 550 metres above sea level.
