Play Golf in The Paradise of Mauritius

By: Kieran Clark | Wed 16 Oct 2024

The Indian Ocean island nation of Mauritius is a true paradise, renowned for its tropical climate, spectacular landscapes, tranquil beaches, beautiful lagoons, and, increasingly, its stunning golf courses.

More of you are embarking on golf holidays to this extraordinary destination, lavishing in the luxury of the hotels, the serenity of the nightlife, and the quality offered by the local courses that have been constructed.

Should you wish to discover it all for yourself, our travel partners Golfbreaks have recommended Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa as the perfect starting point, with its partner layout Mont Choisy Le Golf being ideal to satisfy your golfing needs.

Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa

Beachcomber Resort

Located in the north-west of the island and positioned around an hour from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Trou aux Biches is a proper treat, with direct flights being available from London Heathrow, while alternatively, you can stop over in Dubai when travelling from London Gatwick or Manchester Airport.

Whatever path you have taken to get there, you will love what you find on arrival. Trou aux Biches has been created within the grounds of tropical gardens, offering a range of 306 suites and 27 villas that come in different sizes to suit your requirements. Should you select one of these villas for your stay, you will have your very own private infinity pool to enjoy.

Naturally, all the rooms here feature every amenity that you could realistically ask for, while your evenings can be spent sampling the culinary delights of a five-star resort that provides both casual and a la carte dishes. If you love Thai food, then spend time at Blue Ginger, while Il Corallo is the place for those who prefer Italian dishes. But for the ultimate in fine dining, get yourself to the majestic La Caravelle that rests on the edge of a white sand beach.

Beachcomber Resort Beach

Once you've had a day on the golf course or taken on more adventurous pursuits offered by the resort - including water skiing and diving - you can pamper yourself in the wonderful spa that will transport you to a world of relaxation. There is also a state-of-the-art gym to help you work off the delicious food you have consumed in the restaurants.

But there is even more to explore beyond the resort. Goodlands Market is only 20 minutes away - showcasing an example of local culture - while historical sites The Red Roof Chapel in Cap Malheureux and The Maheswarnath Mandir of Triolet are nearby too.

When you bring all of this together, Trou aux Biches is a dream location to visit for both couples and families.

Mont Choisy Le Golf

Mont Choisy Le Golf

Mont Choisy Le Golf is one of the island’s most popular golf courses - and is the only 18-hole championship layout in the north. Designed by Peter Matkovich, this course oozes with character having been born from the landscape of a sugar cane plantation, with volcanic rock being just one of many features that make this design distinctive.

Water is a factor too, both adding to the challenge and aesthetic qualities of the course. The 15th might just be the signature hole of the layout, being a par 3 over wetlands to an island green that is framed in the background by the ancient chimneys, which are one of the landmarks of the estate.

Mont Choisy Le Golf

If Mont Choisy feels natural and engaging, that's because it was from the beginning, with the architect describing his organic approach to golf course design as "listening to the land."

Reflecting on the results here, he said: "16 years ago, I walked for the first time along the beautiful Allée des Flamboyants, leading to the old Mont Choisy estate. Looking at this pleasant landscape, covered with undulating sugarcane fields, I began to dream about building an 18-hole golf course here, one that would naturally stand out."

There is no doubt that he succeeded in that regard.

Why You Should Visit

Beachcomber Resort

If you're searching for a luxury break for a couple or family with golf at the forefront in a fantastic, comfortable climate, then Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is hard to beat. The location is spectacular, the facilities exceptional, and the golf course is memorable and thrilling to play more than once.
