10 Reasons to Visit Puntacana Resort & Club

By: Andy Waple | Wed 21 Aug 2024

Occupying 15,000 acres of prime land near the airport, the upscale gated beachside residential and holiday venue of Puntacana Resort & Club has absolutely everything a visitor could ask for.

Here are some of the essential reasons to experience this fantastic destination in the Domincan Republic.

1. All year sunshine. Puntacana has a tropical climate meaning all year warmth and lots of sunshine. It has dry and wet seasons but even when it rains there is plenty of sunshine in between. The best time to visit is from November to March, making it a perfect winter getaway for UK golfers.

2. It’s very convenient location in the South East - the most popular tourist area - and it has carved its reputation as one of the very best holiday destination in the Caribbean.

3. Punta Cana International Airport is on the doorstep just minutes’ drive from the main resort making it the most convenient of all the Dominican destinations. On arrival guests have a private pick up by golf buggy on the runaway and staff collect luggage and deal with passport formalities, a process repeated at check in on the way home.

4. Varied hotel and villa accommodation options to suit all budgets. The Westin and Tortuga Bay hotels in particular are exceptional. The latter is the most exclusive hotel at the resort with rooms set in beach side villas, each served with complementary golf buggies so guests can travel between the various attractions within Puntacana at will along dedicated cart paths

5. Great food and drink in 10 restaurants within the hotels and clubhouses with international and local cuisines. Lunch on the beach at Arena Beach Club after a cocktail overlooking the pristine beach and coral reef is a dream come true. There is also the authentic seafood restaurant La Yola, combining Caribbean and Mediterranean flavours set on the sea front at the Puntacana Resort marina.

6. The resort owned Corales golf course, just a stone’s thrown from the hotels and served by regular transfers. It’s one of the best in the Dominican and home to the PGA Tour event, the Corales Puntacana Championship. The view from the clubhouse is jaw dropping. It overlooks the 18th hole, one of the finest finishing holes anywhere, and the wild coastline beyond where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean.

7. Its sibling La Cana golf course, which is less demanding but equally enjoyable with 27 holes, many set along the fabulous shoreline. It may be tamer than Corales but it is certainly no push over. Its clubhouse also has a glorious setting overlooking the white sands and the turquoise sea.

8. The host of other activities - including tennis, polo, horse riding, bike and walking trails and a myriad of water sports on the sublime beaches. The Spa, based at La Cana Golf and Beach Club offers a range of treatments. Excursions available include Segway eco-tours, wreck diving, heli tours and sunset cruises.

9. A visit to the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park & Reserve, 1,500 acres of land donated by Puntacana Resort developers showcasing local wildlife and fauna. Here you can see convalescing Ridgway hawks, now an endangered species solely found on the Dominican Republic, native rhinoceros iguanas and the bee hives producing the distinctive Puntacana honey, available at hotel breakfast tables.

10. Swim among turtles in one of the 12 crystal clear blue natural freshwater lagoons set in the secluded, dense tropical forest adjacent to the reserve. Each was held sacred by the indigenous Taino people, the area’s first occupants.
