The Best Golf Courses For Senior Golfers

When you're choosing golf courses that you wish to play, there are many factors to consider during that process, including cost, difficulty, and what other golfers think.

But for those of you who are a little older - perhaps firmly within the senior category - then you might also start looking for layouts to experience that are less taxing on the body, offering an easier walk that makes them more enjoyable. Let's be honest - you don't even have to be over 60 to also find that more appealing as opposed to undergoing a proper workout over hills and many undulations.

We have studied the Golfshake Course Section to uncover venues that have been renowned for their suitability towards senior golfers or have received review comments that specify that they are flat and straightforward to navigate your way around.

Review Comment: "Beautifully designed links golf courses on the Kent course offering 27 holes in three loops of nine on a relatively flat landscape making this an easy walking course. Absolute joy to play and lucky to have played all 27 holes in a day and could have carried on playing! Definitely a course that offers something for everyone and you could easily step straight back on after 18 holes."

Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club

Chartham Park Golf Club

Bramall Park Golf Club

Location: Stockport, Cheshire

Review Comment: "First time playing Bramall Park, had heard good things about it and it lived up to expectations. Friendly welcome in pro shop and clubhouse. Nice food in clubhouse. Good practice facilities. Course is flat so easy to walk around. Greens in good condition, rolled well if a little on the slow side. Need to plot your way around a bit to score well as a few well placed bunkers. Will return for sure."

West Kilbride Golf Club 

Location: West Kilbride, Ayrshire

Prestatyn Golf Club

Location: Prestatyn, Clwyd

Review Comment: "The course was in great condition and the weather was perfect. Even though I am a high handicapper and the course was fairly long I got round without too much embarassment. I would imagine the course is a real challenge when the wind is blowing. The course is fairly flat, which my knees were grateful for."

Hazel Grove Golf Club

Very pleasant course, not particularly long but a fair challenge with some beautifully framed holes and interesting touches. Very easy walking with a fantastic pace of play. Worth every penny, too."

Bridlington Golf Club

Review Comment: "Well worth a visit. Huge greens and huge bunkers. Flat as a pancake (it is the fens), but still not easy. About seven water hazards, all clearly marked on the scorecard. Nice friendly staff in the 19th."

Lydd Golf Club

Review Comment: "This is a very testing course with 11 of the 18 holes involving water hazards of some kind. There is plenty of car parking with a good clubhouse. The course drains quite well and is relatively flat. The greens are in good condition."

Review Comment: "Really coming along and the changes made recently are excellent. Becoming a nice flat parkland course now, challenging and just great scenery all the way round at Goodwood."

Tournerbury Golf Centre

Review Comment: "Fairways and greens in good condition, as a nine hole course it's a good challenge for my standard of golf, nice long par five holes, just wish more fluffy sand in bunkers. But I will return again and again, a nice flat walk around."

Review Comment: "Lovely course, easy walk. Lovely short-ish course with no major hills. The condition is normally a real high standard with the greens fairly soft but always running true. Front nine has been renovated and looks real good with the bunkers."  

Yarrow Valley Golf Club

Review Comment: "Very friendly staff, nice little course, eight par 3s and one par 4. Great for learners or the more senior aged players. Green reasonable condition. Just needs some signage, we went from first hole to fifth hole!"

Review Comment: "Great for seniors. Excellent value and very well laid out course. Hospitality top notch and as non members booking is easy and we have ben made most welcome. Considering its location ne the Darenth Valley and close to M25, the scenery is fabulous."
