The Best UK Golf Breaks This Autumn

By: Liam Moore | Wed 09 Aug 2023

After a long and sunny summer of golfing, it’s quite common to lack the desire to continue grinding as the weather begins to take a turn for the worst. A golf break can help reignite that passion as you tackle a new course in a completely different environment.

Below, we provide detailed information on five of the best venues that you can visit for an autumn golf break. From the winds of Scotland to the cosiness of Hampshire, a trip to any of these venues is guaranteed to deliver a brilliant golfing experience.

Forest Pines Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

Forest Pines

Set in the idyllic Lincolnshire countryside lies Forest Pines Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort. The hotel boasts 188 comfortable guestrooms that come equipped with all the amenities needed for a peaceful stay. All rooms benefit from 24-hour room service and there are 27 holes of championship golf waiting to be experienced. Golfers can combine any two loops to create the traditional 18, and all three offerings provide a stern test of golf.

Golfers who are committed to their fitness will be thrilled to know that there is a gym for hotel guests to use, in addition to a first-class spa that offers various treatments and a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi for guests to unwind in. There are two primary eateries, with The Eighteen57 providing a contemporary dining area that is enjoyable for couples. The Grill is a more relaxed environment whilst The Pines Bar is perfect for that post-round pint.

East Sussex National Golf Hotel

East Sussex National

East Sussex National has a collection of rooms that holds the capacity to temporarily house hundreds of golfers. In total, there are 104 comfortable bedrooms on offer, with all the amenities needed supplied by the hotel. The majority of rooms boast tremendous views of the sweeping landscape that surrounds the building. The East Course measures a whopping 7,138 yards from the tips, whilst the West Course is narrower and places a premium on accuracy. Whatever loop you decide for - and we highly recommend both - you are assured of a championship and challenging golfing experience.

The Health Club and Horsted Spa allows visitors to relax with a selection of treatments available. A swimming pool is also available for use. Guests will either dine at the relaxing Huntington's Restaurant or upgrade their evening by visiting the Pavilion Restaurant, which is a recipient of two AA Rosettes.

Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa

Shrigley Hall

Based in Cheshire, Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa is a fantastic golfing experience that is set in a beautiful green environment. The majestic views, that can be enjoyed from the majority of rooms, are simply breathtaking. There are 154 bedrooms available for renting and they are decorated to a high and luxurious standard. The 6,521-yard championship golf course is set in a woodland environment and there are picturesque views from every hole.

A converted chapel boasts a 14m swimming pool, sauna, steam room and fitness suite for guests to enjoy. All visitors will be in awe of the gastronomy options, as the exquisite Oakridge restaurant features a variety of tasty dishes that are bursting with flavour; the courtyard bar is a more relaxing setting that serves light meals.

Sandford Springs Hotel & Golf Club

Sandford Springs

Sandford Springs Hotel & Golf Club is located in Hampshire and there are a total of 40 guestrooms available for renting. All rooms feature exceptional views that overlook the golf course and the rolling hills of the Watership Down. Similarly to Forest Pines, there are 27 holes with two of the 9-hole loops being combined to create the traditional 18. The Lakes, Wood and Park courses all provide a good challenge regardless of ability.

Sandford Springs boasts a 4-star rating and offers guests a breakfast buffet in the morning. An investment of £1.5 million was injected into the venue, which has majorly improved the drainage of the golf course - meaning golf is a year-round activity that is seldom affected by adverse weather.

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club

Dalmahoy

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is a gigantic Scottish resort that has a rich history with the sport of golf. There are 215 rooms and suites available and each bedroom contains all the amenities needed for your stay, including 24-hour room service if you get peckish during off-peak operational hours. The Championship East Course is a hefty challenge that has played host to a series of professional events: Solheim Cup, Scottish PGA and the Scottish Seniors Open to name just a few. The West Course is more welcoming to novice golfers but there remains a premium on accuracy from the tee.

Alongside the quality golf offering is a brilliant spa that boasts a well-equipped gym and indoor pool. There are several treatments available from the spa, including lip treatments, makeup services and waxing. Two restaurants are located on-site and guests can either eat at The Brasserie or the more formal Pentland Restaurant.
