6 Reasons to Experience Amendoeira Golf Resort
Tucked away in the Algarve's Monchique Mountains you will discover one of the region's most glittering jewels - the Amendoeira Golf Resort.
Here you have a choice of two exceptional courses laid out across 270 hectares of tranquility, The Faldo and The O'Connor Jnr, each delivering a fabulous challenge within an intoxicating environment. These are complemented by the state of the art practice facilities at the venue; namely a stunning range, putting greens and fantastic short game area.
Additionally, the floodlit nine-hole Academy Course (unique in Portugal) is the place for an evening round once the sun has gone down!
When it comes to the accommodation, you can enjoy one of the modern apartments at the resort that are all fitted with a fully equipped kitchen, large lounges and all the amenities you could possibly need during your memorable stay.
Our travel partners Golfbreaks have the best deals and packages to take you there, but if you require a touch of extra inspiration before making that decision, then here are some specific reasons why Amendoeira needs to be your next golf holiday destination!
The Faldo Course
Designed by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo, this is a masterful creation that ranks alongside the finest in the country. It's a strategic layout that takes full advantage of the thrilling landscape to offer a challenge reminsicent of the heathland and parklands of England, but with cacti, wild herbs, holm oaks, olive trees and desert scrub bunkers taking the role commanded at home by heather and woodland.
When he studied the canvas on which he had to work with, the six-time major champion said: "The land at Amendoeira is dramatic and the project has the potential to be a real talking point in the Algarve. With so many courses in the region, that's no mean feat."
Given that The Faldo was named Portugal's Best Golf Course in 2016 - that rich potential was fulfilled.
The O'Connor Jnr Course
Ryder Cup hero Christy O'Connor Jnr was the mind behind this course that is known for its many water features that are dotted throughout the layout, meaning that accuracy and a solid nerve are required by those golfers who are taking on its challenge.
Known for its scenery, the 18-holes feel like something of an oasis considering the plentiful number of mature palm trees on site that further enhance the aesthetic joys of the course.
Now positioned alongside the finest in the Algarve, The O'Connor Jnr is always immaculately presented and completes an undeniably brilliant 36 holes at Amendoeira.
Floodlit 9-Hole Course
Boasting a unique standing as the only nine-hole floodlit course in Portugal, Amendoeira's superb Academy Course is perfect for beginners and those golfers who fancy a little touch of short-game practice during the evenings.

Outstanding Accomodation
Whatever the size of your visiting party, there is something for you at Amendoeira. The resort has a collection of two bedroom and two bathroom apartments, each fitted with a fully equipped kitchen and large lounge. However, if you require greater capacity, then you can also book one of the three, four and five bedroom villas with options for a private pool too.
Amenities include air-con, free Wi-Fi, a garage or carport, and outdoor furniture. The Clubhouse located in the heart of the resort has a large restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Location
Like much of the Algarve, a great appeal of Amendoeira Golf Resort is that it's located approximately 40 minutes from Faro Airport. Most airports in the UK fly to Faro with a flight time of two and a half to three hours, meaning that it's highly accessible from wherever your adventure has begun.
Other Activities
Beyond the golf - which is surely good enough! - there is also a considerable amount to see and do. Additional facilities within the resort include two outdoor pools, a gym, football pitches and six tennis courts. If you want even more; there are options for boat trips, dolphin watching, fishing, surfing, scuba diving and water sports. Hiking, cycling, flying, paintballing, clay pigeon shooting and horse riding are a possibility too, meaning that there are experiences to leave everyone satisfied and wanting to spend extra time at Amendoeira.
