Feature Review Trieste Golf Club
Par 70, 6,353 yards
Many locals use the restaurant and other facilities at Trieste Golf Club as a social club. This is Italy, so it comes as no surprise to discover that, once again, the food is magnificent, with a menu featuring plenty of local produce. This is also another course that encourages juniors, with regular coaching sessions.
The course was originally built by allied troops after the second world war. It is located close to the Slovenian border and offers incredible views over the gulf of Trieste and beyond.
The signature hole is the 17th, a par four measuring almost 400 yards, where the green appears to be suspended above the sea, with glorious views from the Lagoon of Grado and Ligano to the Istrian coast offering a breathtaking backdrop to a stunning golf hole.
The course is a par 70 measuring 6,353 yards. It is lush and well manicured and its chief protection comes from the Bora, an unpredictable wind that blows across the area.
I enjoyed playing this course from a playing perspective but it is the overall package that appeals and would cause me to return. This is not a long course at 5810 meters for a par 70, but its main appeal is its location and stunning views.
