Golf in Tenerife: Meliã Hacienda del Conde

The Golf

Unuaually for many courses, but not for a Seve design the Beunavista course features six par-3s, six par-4s and six par-5s. The main challenges on this course are the water features, including the Atlantic Ocean, however a mixture of doglegs and undulating greens also add to the stern test. After all, Seve did say: “I have designed a unique golf course,” when describing his creation.

It is generally considered that the stand out hole on this course is the par-5 5th. This is because the green sits right on the cliff top and when you play the hole, it feels as if you are hitting your ball right into the ocean. Delightfully the central lake between the 9th and 18th holes and opposite the clubhouse is connected by natural waterfalls and offers a totally unique and special atmosphere.

The fairways at the Beunavista course have been designed with the utmost respect for the natural lay of the land and the new areas of the course have been planted with local plant species. Seve himself said: “I have designed the course so that the majority of the holes offer different ways of approaching them.”

In addition to the stunning 18 hole layout, there is also a Golf Academy with specialist programmes for beginners and experts which features two putting greens, a chipping area and a driving range that faces south with a slight rise so golfers can easily see the flight of the ball.
