What the club says: When the celebrated golf writer Bernard Darwin first saw it, he ‘fell deeply in love.’ Global Golfer’s Paul Atkinson and his pals call it ‘Valhalla.’ English Golf Courses considers it a ‘James Braid masterpiece.’ UK Golf Guide rates it a ‘must play.’ Golf Empire raves that it’s ‘as good as many of the top links in East Lothian and knocks socks off many of its southern counterparts.’ And Golf Club Atlas states simply, ‘If this was your regular, you would think you had died and gone to heaven.’
What’s inspired so many to wax so poetic?
That would be Goswick Links golf course in Northumberland, nestled amid windswept dunes along a vast expanse of stunning coastline midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle, just three miles off the A1.
This treasure is a bit remote. But that’s one of the many attributes that makes it so special. Seek it out and you’ll be rewarded with an escape from reality to, as Darwin puts it, ‘one of the most naturally magnificent pieces of golfing ground that ever swam into the ken of the golfing explorer.’
You’ll also be challenged and inspired, no matter your skill level. The R&A has designated Goswick as Regional Qualifying venue for the Open Championship through 2024. And it recently hosted the England Golf County Senior Finals. Yet choose the tee appropriate for your game and you’ll walk off the 18th green with a round to remember as you indulge in a bite and a pint in the lounge of our welcoming clubhouse.
We love our links. Now, we’d very much welcome the chance to share it with you. As Fine Golf assures, ‘you will not be disappointed.’

Links golf at its best
Played 22/11/2024 course in fantastic condition, preferred lies on the immaculate fairways, greens slick true.A pleasure to play this excellent course again after 30+ years. If you get the chance play, as it’s one of the best around and won’t disappoint.
Great tip If you can pick the weather play when it’s not a force 9 ????
Fantastic food and hospitality in the clubhouse to add

Beautiful but tough
The condition and presentation of the course was first class as was the welcome in the pro shop and clubhouse. Got to say this is a very tough course! Hitting a fairway on the front nine was extremely difficult and the rough is very penal. Anyone not a single figure handicap should just enjoy the experience and not worry about the score. Add ?20 of lost balls to the green fee as well. Back nine plays a little easier as it's flatter and some really great holes to enjoy.Reviewer Rating

Great Classic Links
Took our golf society here for an autumn round. Conditions were windy but it was still a really enjoyable round. Hitting the fairway helps considerably but balls generally findable in the rough. Great condition, fabulous views.Reviewer Rating

Top UK Links
Just what you expect from a links. I'd imagine it doesn't get the visits and credit it quite deserves as golfing folk wax lyrical about Berwick and the other top courses just a few miles further north into Scotland. Our group had a fabulous welcome, tasty pre-round lunch which set us up well for the expected test. Goswick is a true links test with lines off the tee not always obvious, bunkers, gorse and water well placed to challenge your strategy and some undulation and elevation which can test and delight in equal measure. There are some changes planned to make it even better, it won't need much as its already firmly in my memory as a top links track!Reviewer Rating

Poor condition
A good quality layout but spoiled by the poor level of condition. Divots on fairways in typical landing areas not fixed, multiple pitch marks on greens not fixed. Tees often bare without grass (7th is particularly bad along with each of the par threes). Overall a disappointing experience.Reviewer Rating

Poorly maintained
A good challenge but in four visits I’ve yet to play it in properly maintained condition. A few weak holes on both nines. Two separate loops of nine which start and return to the quaint, old collection of elevations that comprise the clubhouse. With my playing partners we joked at the walkways being in better maintained condition than the tees and fairways. Such a shame but under different management it’d probably achieve its true potential.Reviewer Rating
