What the club says: In 1907, Royal Wimbledon Golf Club began construction of its course, designed by Willie Park Jnr, on 240 acres of farmland adjoining the Common. The course has had a major re-design since then but still keeps some of its original features. The course is a good challenge and will test golfers of all playing standards.

I am lucky to have played this course on a couple of occasions recently as it is strictly a members (and guest) club. The course was in excellent condition, helped by the late Spring / early summer weather. The greens were good (not perfect) considering we played late afternoon and there had been a lot of footfall earlier in the day due to an event. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers etc were in excellent condition.
This is a course that you really need to plot your way around. The hazards are well placed and can catch good drivers if you are not careful. Some parts of the rough, particularly around the greens are really punishing and it can be difficult to even find your ball. Rough on the fairways is less so but its easy to be blocked out by trees.
I'm told that during wet periods some parts of the course can become soggy (hence the works being carried out).

Little Disappointed
Had the opportunity to play this for a 2nd time in the last 5 years, I enjoyed the first time round but this time did not feel the green fee justified the condition. Some good changes to bunkering and the welcome friendly as it was last time.Reviewer Rating

A gem so close to London but a ?closed shop?
Hadn't played Royal Wimbledon for a couple of years so was a little disappointed with the autumn conditions but aware that work is continual on what is after all a ?common? course. Only able to play here because of the Merton Residents entitlement option and at ?37 green fee areare treat. Greens particularly challenging with dips, cambers and borrows always in play, so keeping a three putt of your card is the margin.Be aware that no access to the club house is allowed unless a member or guest of one. Pro in shop less than forthcoming with welcome, but acknowledge that to play here is our privilege as Merton Residents but appreciated none the less. Will return probably as a treat because there are many better kept courses for half the price within a 10 mile radius.

great drainage after heavy rain
this is a great course to play especially if it has rained heavily in the preceding days. The course is varied with many interesting holes . Whilst it lacks a bit of length the shape and topography of most holes makes it a good test and interesting.Reviewer Rating
