What the club says: Established in 1885, Hesketh Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Southport. The Club is set to host Regional Qualifying for the Open Championship from 2023 to 2026.
Several holes meander through tall sand dunes, and the club is on a journey to re-establish the courses classic links feel. Some of the best holes lie between the sandhills and the clubhouse, particularly the 18th, an impressive, lengthy finishing hole.

First 2 holes and then last 5 holes are what you would expect in terms of sand dunes. The rest of the course is in a parkland type style. Greens are good and reasonably fast.

Excellent test of golf in very good condition. Set on Southport coast with views across the marshlands and bird sanctuaries.

Fantastic Layout, must visit
My first time at Hesketh, and what a pleasant experience. Great layout, with a fantastic mix of holes, and a beautiful presented course by the Greens Team. Particularly liked the two closing par 5s.Lots of risk and reward. Anyone will enjoy.

Society day
Played this course a couple of times with a Society and it never disappoints.Great layout and always in really condition giving a proper challenge to pretty much all skill levels.
I would definitely recommend giving the place a try.

Course is good with some challenging holes. A few blind shots which isn’t great on your first visit. Staff were friendly and service a good. Would definitely play again and would probably appreciate it more second time round.

Outstanding and difficult course
I have only played this course twice, the first was a number of years ago when I didn't appreciate it for what it was. Having played a couple of quality full links courses this year I really enjoyed the challenge that the holes around the clubhouse offered. Those across the road are tricky in places and the entire course was in excellent condition. The greens were hard fast flat and difficult to read in places. Highly recommendedReviewer Rating

Much better around
The course is ok, but it thinks that it is in the same league as other local courses such as Birkdale. The 17th hole is an abomination, maybe time for a new green keeping team. The club house is the best part of this place. Lovely building but in need of some modernisation. The paths around the course also resemble the roads of an Uzbekistan Village, don’t fall down the pot holes.Reviewer Rating

Very bland boring course except for 7 links holes. Definitely not worth £80, maybe £20 at best.
Do not book as part of a package with the ther local courses, as you will be very disappointed.
