FORTE APEX 6 Golf Ball Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 14 Mar 2017

FORTE are an Australian based ball company that have been gathering a loyal following thanks to their premium level 3 and 6 peice balls that they see direct to the consumer.

Following 2 years of extensive research focusing on golfers games and their requirments they produced the 6-piece Apex ball. While not yet available worldwide (although they will be soon) we managed to get our hands on some and headed out onto the course to test.

FORTE APEX 6

What FORTE say about the Apex 6:

  • P.R.B. High-Energy Core: The high energy core with super-soft and low compression leads to ultimate distance with low spin off the tee.
  • Soft HPF Resin: The first mantle layer is made by soft and lightning reaction formula for the improved touch and feel.
  • Mid-Soft HPF Resin: The energy transfer layer is a perfect combination of the first and third layers characteristics.
  • Toughness HPF Resin: Offering extraordinary control, the third layer has the greatest flexibility and flexural strength.
  • Surlyn Lonomer Resin: Resin that is used to aid generating greater spin control around the green.
  • Cast Urethane Cover: Along with an exclusive patented polyurethane formula that provides excellent spin control around the green along with incredible soft feel.

Phil Eadsforth (12 Handicap)

Great performing ball which I had my best round of the week with. Definitely different feel and sound to a ‘normal’ ball. Very clicky and a firmer feel which made me question my strikes but the results seemed decent. They also seemed to scuff up very easily.

Phil's Score 7/10

Owen Davies (+2 Handicap)

What a great ball this is. One of the main things I look for in a premium ball is consistency and the APEX 6 certainly delivered on that front. It is long off the tee, but you get plenty of control around thr green. It is quite firm feeling, so if you are looking for something really soft, you may want to look at FORTE's 3-peice ball instead. Personally I like a harder feel, so this ball ticked a lot of boxes.

Owen's Score 8.5/10

Matt Holbrook (11 Handicap)

I found these to be very forgiving off the tee and didn't produce as much spin as the Tour S. As a result I had far greater control over the dispersion off the tee as well as with long irons, but maybe did not generate as much spin as I would want from a premiuim ball. A player that struggles for accuracy off the tee would definitely see the benefits of the Apex 6.

Matt's score - 7/10

Andrew Picken (18 Handicap)

I was very impressed by its soft feel around the green and off the putter. After two full rounds of use I noticed that it was a little duller in colour but this did not impact on performance in any way.

This felt like a premium Titleist ball in all respects. I intend to review this further over the next few days but my first impressions through feel alone are very positive. UK Price point will be an important factor if it is to be successful in gaining market share.

Whilst having a playing lesson I used my teaching professional as a guinea pig and he loved the Apex for its feel and playability. For the better player this is an really good option to consider.

Andrew's score - 9/10
