What the club says: Ramside Hall Hotel and Golf Club opened in 1996 and its Prince Bishops' Course is now established as one of the best golf courses in North East England.
The par 72 course measures 6,851 yards from its championship tees and has views of world famous Durham Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the inspiration for Ramside’s second course – The Cathedral Course opened in September 2014. The Prince Bishops course is named after the warrior clergymen who ruled over the lawless North from Durham Castle after the Norman Conquest in the 11th Century.

In good nick but not terribly enjoyable
there's a few nice holes on this course and they've done the best they can with the land available I guess. I haven't played the other course but I've heard good things about it. Will hope to play that shortly.Reviewer Rating

Cracking Venue and course
The Cathedral course was tough with tight fairways and a lot of blind shots but it was in great condition and greens were superb.Reviewer Rating

Give the Prince Bishops a miss until 2023
We visited Ramside in September 2021 and the Prince Bishops was in shocking condition, we complained and got a free return in Feb 2022. We have just returned and all 8 of us agreed we will not return to Ramside until 2023 at least. They have done nothing to the courses since installing drainage in 2021 and yet still look to charge the same money for the awful state they are in. Holes are shortened and the tees are sludgy messes. The 18th was shortened because of them building cabins, they are now finished so why not open the hole up or is the intention to leave it as a short par four SI5 ? The staff are great, really polite and understanding but it doesnt mean its worth paying good golf money for a course thats about ?15 standard. We played Sharpley the next day and it was superb for ?25. Ramside facilities and hotel are great, the Prince Bishops Course avoid and play the Cathedral as thats in better nick. Or better still go to Slaley, Rockliffe, Carden Park or Arden and get better value golf.Reviewer Rating

JTG England Final Venue
I got in-depth first hand knowledge of the Cathedral course when following my Junior team in the National Final three weeks ago. It’s a long course off the whites at 6,800 yards, let alone the blues at over 7,000. Add to this the lack of run on the ball and it’s a monster.Positives are a good range of well designed holes making good use of the surprisingly undulating terrain. This includes some tough par three holes.
Negatives were a certain lack of definition to the course. Fairways merged into rough with at times no clarity. There are numerous water hazards, but for the quality golfer these frequently did not come into play. For instance the 18th is a par 3 with a large lake. Over 200 yards but the lake finishes 25 yards short of the green. This is a recurring feature around the course. With a few tweaks the course could become a top venue.
The greens were noticeably bumpy and not particularly quick for our practice round. When cut for the final they were faster but still bumpy, making putting a bit of a lottery.
Watch out for the 17th. There is a sign on the tee that says you are not allowed to use anything other than irons because of health and safety. This on a hole measuring well over 400 yards from the whites, into the prevailing wind. Nonsense!

Let down by Hospitality & Friendliness of Team
Both courses are in fantastic condition, with the greens in particular a real standout.Customer Service post round left a lot to be desired though. Waited 45 minutes for some chips, and then a further 25 minutes for my bill at the end!
Pace of play wasn't great, and appeared that poor planning was the main cause.
